2015 -2020 Sunroof Rails Replacement Guide (printable)
I know this is an older thread, but I recently had the sunroof issue. I ordered the new lift arms from Sunroof doctor. When my son in law and I removed the sunroof,
we discovered the lift arms were fine, but the driver side cable piece that attaches to the lift arm was broken. I’ve watched the video about replacing the cables without removing the whole sunroof, but don’t understand what the pointed end attaches to. Do you just slide the new cable into the guide, and then run the initialization and it “catches”? Am I missing a step?

Only thing pointed is the end of the cable, and it does back in the "tunnel" the old one came out of. The motor gear grabs the cable and moves it inside the tunnel. The motor has to be dropped or removed to get them out, then they should slide fairly freely
The part that is circled is just the plastic trough guide. It's not pointed, so not sure what you mean?

I watched your video where you took the cable out of the drivers side track with the sunroof still on the truck, and you put the new cable in. It was hard, but you said it was possible. At the end of the video, you said that’s it, and didn’t show any other step to connect the cable to the motor. My question is if I buy the new cable,
can I just do the same thing you did, and work the old one out, and the new one in? Or, is there another step
I have to complete, to attach the pointed end of the cable to the motor. Your videos don’t show you doing this anywhere that I could find, and this is all I need to fix to get the sunroof operable again. Thanks for your videos!

dang, after years of keeping my gaskets lubed and always venting and closing before opening pano today i accidently hit pano open first. Of course I had not lubed up my gaskets this spring and there was a loud pop and now I can't vent or slide. It starts to initiate a pretty brief movement and then just goes back to its original closed position.
I guess I have some videos to watch. I have a '17 with about 130K on it. Was hoping it was just arms needing replacement, but if nothing opens i'm not sure.

That's what I'm afraid of. Not sure i'm going to fix anything then. it's closed and water tight. I love the pano option fishing and summer are coming, water is calling LOL. If I don't do it soon, it's likely going to be a winter project.
The only ones I ever just do the arms on anymore is the early 19's and maybe some very late 18's, that already had the upgraded lower cable guides but still had the old style arms. They eventually started using the new style arms in fall of 19, and they've been solid ever since. But if it's anything with the older lower guides, they are 100% broken at this point. They just don't survive the trauma of having the jump over the broken arm giblets like they did the first few years.
I just looked back and see yours is a 17. I wouldn't even bother checking, they are broken. I have videos on how to do anything to one of these, including doing the cables while the track is still in the truck. So it's not THAT big a deal. Getting a good set of cables IS, though. I do recommend Sunroof Doctor....the ebay/amazon/etc ones are VERY hit or miss as to whether they work or not.

I'll check out your videos, thank you! So my track is probably ok? but needing arms, lower cable guides and new cables?
