2015 to 2018 - Seriously Thinking

As I have gotten older, I have looked back with much regret on how much money the "latest & greatest" has cost me. Appreciating what you have is one of the simple keys to a happy life.

Cosmok,
I guess I agree with that in theory, which is why I plan to swap my '15 for an '18 in the next year. My simple happy life stays if I have a new Ford or no Ford.
Plain and simple, no regrets. I appreciate that.

I leased my 15 XL. So in 18 I will be ready to get a new one. I want a higher level trim but not all the gadgets like BLS, Rear Video, parking assist or Nav. I want a radio with six buttons that I can program not 27. I want a very untech truck with the looks and interior of a platinum. I was taught how to drive using mirrors and my eyes. I don't need sat radio nor a 6 disk cd changer, mp3, 400 gig HDD etc. If you look at most of the complaints about these trucks I bet the Tech stuff is the highest hitting. I need a truck not an electronics night mare.
So yes I will be trading in my lowly XL and moving up to a Lariat or Platinum maybe even a Raptor. I will have to order it because all the ones I see on the lots have a bunch of tech stuff ready to break.

Maybe in 2019 when my mileage gets up there.
Right now I have the truck I want. Lariat and up are no goes since I hate leather seating, don't want Auto 4WD, and don't like all the glorified electronics that do the driving for you, instead of you.
On my latest XLT, being the 3rd, 2010, 2012, and now the 2016.
I found I don't want chrome or sport packages that Ford forces you take with the 302a packages. I did it on the 2012 to get the truck I needed and regretted it when cheap chrome started peeling on wheels and corroding on side steps after only 2 years. Never liked the cheap looking chrome door handles or weird chromed out front tow hooks.
I like the Sport package, but not the blacked out wheels or painted bumpers. Give me chrome bumpers that won't chip and rust up like the painted steel bumpers I've had previously. Plastic painted covered bumpers won't rust but gets damaged easily when hitting coyotes, raccoons, or turkeys that run out in front of you. Can't image getting $2K worth of damage from something so minor.
I'll just have to see what packages Ford will offer in 2019.

After sitting in my Lariat playing with buttons and apps for over an hour the night after I got it, I believe you'll be disappointment to discover that even a "basic" Lariat or Platinum is electronics rich. No way around it.

Just paid off my 2015 this month. I won't lie, I've considered the 2018's, but now that I don't owe anything on the truck, it'll be nice to enjoy just paying insurance and gas for several years to come.
If you do get the 18, then what? When the 2021's come out, you'll just trade again? If you owe more than what a trade is worth, you'll just be in the hole even more. If you don't owe now on your truck, then I guess it's up to you if you want to take on payments again or not.

Wise words, I made my wife a promise that I would keep this 2016 Lariat 502 for at least 5 years. I've bought and sold a lot of new cars and lost a lot of money in the process. I really need to heed your advice and appreciate what I have.

I might get a 19. I did the first year new model thing once, once. Never again.
