2015-2016 Depreciation after the 2017 starts hitting dealership?
Hello New member here and I am long time fan of trucks in general and f150 in particular so my question is will we have good deals once the 2017 starts hitting dealership?

Thanks for the warm welcome....I apologize if this question has been debated already...All I am asking is how much depreciation are we expecting for the 2015-2016 MY because of the new transmission and new v6 ecoboost engine in the new 2017s

I personally don't think they will be contributing factors.

This is going to be completely subjective. It's qualified by location, the dealer, and your negotiating skills. Obviously the popularity of the truck you are looking at holds the most weight

Here are my thoughts with working for a dealer for 12 years and in general buying fords. The 15-16 xlt will take the biggest hit as they have the most rebates. So a 15 or 16 xlt crewcab 4wd nicely packages around 50k. Take 8-10k for rebates and discounts. Then take about 2500-3000 a year for driving off that. Then take an additional 5k of that for being used. So a dealer will hit you on a 2015 trade in for about 29-31k for trade in considering average milage driven. A 2016 should get you about 32-34k trade in. The lariat and above trims won't get hit as hard due to the rebates and discounts being a bit less. Usually the numbers stay around this unless it's a complete redesign. Then add about 1-1500 more for depreciation. Now if you keep that same truck until the next year of the new redesign you can usually gain that 1-1500 back cause it's no longer new. Those are my thoughts coming from buying fords and working there.

2017 isn't that big of a model year increase. First of all, only the 3.5L is an updated engine, the 2.7L will remain the same. Second of all, an updated engine and new 10 speed transmission is not exactly something that you will want to be the first to test out.
It could go either way... but if the 10 speed transmission has ANY problems at all then suddenly the 2015/16's will actually go up in value.

$10K - $15K deprecation for 1st year then about $3K the year after, then normal deprecation will kick in.
That's how it works, and with the introduction of new 3.5 and 10speed it may or may not get worse. Some people want the newest thing, others like to wait a year to see how it pans out... But, if the new 10speed and 3.5L fail maybe the 16' won't take such a beating.... I doubt it.
And if you don't get near $8K off the sticker price, then be prepared to loose even more down the road.
If your gonna keep the truck for 15+ years, a feat not accomplished by many this day an age, I wouldn't worry about deprecation.
