2010 BakFlip G2 mod to fit 2015
I did a lot of searching on this subject before my truck arrived. I found a number of people who said it wouldn't fit. But what I didn't find, except one guy, that had actually tried it. I responded ot him to get some info but no response. Granted maybe the ones that had actually tried it did not respond to the thread...IDK.
So, when my truck arrived, I had my Bak G2 from my 2010 that I traded, figuring I would at least try a test fit to see if a mod was even possible. if not, I would sell the lid and buy new. Here are some photos of the test fit and mod I did to fit the 2010 Bak G2 to my new 2015 Screw.
Sorry about the cruddy cell phone pics..I was in a hurry and it was getting dark and threatening rain towards the end....
Test fit of the rail. You can see it about 1/4" - 3/16" long.
Fit was good and flat
I marked it just inside the body line for the cut.
Made the cut with a simple hacksaw
Finished cut...I still need to file these to smooth them out.
Rail fit after the cut
When I initially fit the lid I noticed the end of the metal parts on the underside were basically flush with the body line. Had this stuck out too much it would not have worked.
Front fit...hard to see with flash plus truck and lid being so dusty.
Tailgate fit
I tried the auto tailgate release on level ground. It pops but just hangs up and won't fall on its own. I am going to try and clean the rubber seal and maybe armorall the underside to give it a little slickness
So for all of you wondering..it will work. I saved myself $800 byt doing this. The front of the lid is right up against the bulkhead, not on top of it. It lays as flat as it did on the 2010. The whole process of test fit and doing the mod took maybe 1.5 hours or so.
It is supposed to rain today, so well see how it keeps the water out. Water was never a problem on the 2010.
Hope this can help someone.

Glen

Thanks , I'm about to buy 2015 lariat and I'm gonna just take my cover off now
The dealers told me it wouldn't fit, as well as everyone else. Technically they are right. But after seeing what your doing no doubt I will try. Hopefully my bed extender will work also. I'm switching from 2014 fx4 to lariat 2015 fx4.
Will follow up after they do it.
By the way if anyone is wondering yes I'm trading in 14 for 15. I got a great dela on mine over 12 off sticker. One year later I have equity. And now they are giving 10k off so almost stupid if I don't get this new body style.

Getting ready to try this now. 2013 F150 shortbed with Bakflip F1 >>>> 2015 F150 Shortbed using the same Bakflip F1. From my initial dry fit it seems I am seeing the very same details mentioned here.
