Default 2" receiver hitch causing back up warning beeping

Hello all!

This truck is new to me and I moved my 2" receiver hitch over to my 2015 Lariat FX4 and now there is a steady beep when I put it in reverse. Is there any way to re-calibrate the sensors to not see the hitch?
Thanks so much t everyone, this is a great forum.

Must be a big hitch, try only having it in when towing. Also when in reverse you should see something that gives the option of turning it off. But, I guess that defeats the purpose of the sensors.

That's weird. I run a hitch with a 2 5/16" ball (1" drop) and it never makes the sensors go off.

It seems normal to me for a hitch. If I leave the pin out and push it all the way in it doesnt set off the sensors. I think I am going to drill a hole through it at the all the way in position and then let it ride there until I need to use it, and then slide it back to that original position.

Thanks to all for the help.

Or just find the spot where it quits being detected and see if it still sticks out far enough to be usable, then you don't need to move it.

No, there isn't. As you've discovered, your hitch is simply sticking out too far. You can disable the alarm each time you use your truck, but have to do it again the next time, or do your plan of pushing it in further.

If you're towing a heavy "Whatever" I'd re consider drilling your receiver hitch. While it may not seem like much or a big deal it will absolutely weaken the receiver. Light towing would not be a consideration.

I had a similar problem and I have the hitch with a step up no problem for over a year when you put it in reverse it shows you what sensor is going off.
there was a small rock wedged behind the bumper and the sensor stuck my hand up there and took it out no more false info.
I could also be a bad sensor but I doubt it is the hitch
hope this helps!

Since the OP stated that when he removes the pin and pushes it all the way in that it doesn't beep, then it's not a rock or a bad sensor, but simply the length of the hitch as he proved.

I don't think he means to drill the "receiver" on the truck but the bar on the hitch itself. another hole, as it were, to slide the pin through when closer to the bumper. This would be like making lightening holes and shouldn't cause any weakening.
