Default 2 reasons I glad I bought a Ford

A friend of mine has a 2016 Silerado. I rode with him to get his oil changed. He informed it was cheaper to have the dealer do it than do it himself. It cost him $60 to have the dealer do it and it costs him around $75 to buy the oil and filter. That is reason number 1. My dealer charges me (when I buy a bundle of 10) $15 for an oil change with semi synthetic oil. That's for oil filter and labor.

#2 reason that I would not want a Chevy. While waiting on his truck I look at trucks on the lot. All the Scewcabs where assembled in Mexico. Mine was assembled in Dearborn MI. I know parts are made all over the world but I want one made here in the good ole USA. Just my opinion.

I don't know where he buys his oil and filters but I can do 2 oil changes for $75. Chevy, ford don't matter and that's using full synthetic.

Mobil has $12 per 5 qt jug rebates twice a year on Mobil 1. Wal-Mart sells the 5 qt jugs for $23 all the time. So Mobil 1 costs $2.20 per quart. Motorcraft filters for the 2.7 are slightly more expensive at $6. So a full synthetic oil change costs. less than $20.

I just know what he told me. He said it was a special oil and a special filter and it holds eight quarts. I'm not for sure where he buys it. But I know the guy won't go to a place he thinks is too high.

GM requires 0W-20 dexos rated syn. Almost any off the shelf brand will meet this spec, Mobil1, Pennzoil Plat. Castrol Edge/Magnetec, Valvoline Syn, even NAPA and Walmart Supertech meet the requirement. There's a bunch of oils that work; here's the list: Dexos 1 Gen 2 oils

So at most you are looking at 30-40 for 8 quarts (the GM spec). Ironically the Motorcraft FL-500s (I'd opt for a Wix if it were me) also fits the GM V-8's. So if you wanted you could do an oil change for $40ish. Very similar pricing, and not much difference if you ask me.

Sorry, this just struck me funny. The only thing special, are some of the ones that drive GM, not all, but some.

For my '16 5.0L, I go to the dealer as well. 8qts + filter is probably $30? Dealer is $60...I get free coffee and donut and I get to look at all the new cars and trucks on the lot. And it's only about a 3 mile drive.

Now, on my '03 4.2L, I do it myself. 6qts and filter and it takes me 15mins total to change it.

When I had my 2014 Silverado I got 3 or 4 free oil changes...

With my F150 I get the Works for $39.95 (I think they charge me for another qt), eat the dealers donuts+coffee and use the wifi while I wait. These days you only change the oil twice a year so no big deal.
