2 month update on 2019 Lariat 5.0
Hi guys, I've owned my new 2019 Lariat 502a 4X4 with the 5.0 and 10 speed for a little over two months now and wanted to share my thoughts and observations on my new F150. I picked up my special ordered (build date 1-30-19) truck from the dealership the end of February and have approximately 1700 miles on it. Not a lot of miles yet but enough to give you all my impressions so far.
I'm very pleased with my 5.0 engine. It runs smooth and no clatter, hesitation or other strange noises. I've had several 5.0 engines in earlier trucks (2011, 2016 and 2017 F150's) and didn't have any problems with any of those either. I did notice that my current 5.0 seems to run a little stronger and quicker than the early models I had. It appears a few 2018s with the 5.0 have a oil consumption problem but my 2019 5.0 has not used a drop of oil in the 1700 miles I've had it. Maybe just lucky but that has not been an issue for this truck.
My impression with the 10 speed has also been great. I had the 6 speed in my earlier trucks and didn't have any problems with them and I was a little hesitant about getting the 10 speed. It shifts smooth both accelerating and decelerating, no hunting for gears or harsh shifts.
One of the features I really enjoy is the adaptive cruise control. This is one of the main features I missed on my 2017 and wanted again. I've used it numerous times and it has operated without any kind of hitch or false indicators when passing or following another vehicle. I can't comment on the lane assist or the parking assist on my truck as I've not used these features or plan on in the future too. I have used the 4A option a couple of times last winter and really impressed with it also over the 4X4, especially when turning.
Concerning vibrations on this truck their are none. We have 80 mph speed limits on the freeways here and even when driving at the speed limit no vibrations at all. I was originally going to have the tires changed out from the stock Goodyear Wranglers (275/55/20) but have since decided to keep them and not replace them until it's needed.
On this truck I decided to go with the OEM spray in bed liner instead of Line-X premium as I had on my earlier trucks. In my opinion the Ford spray in is not quite as thick as the Line-X and it doesn't cover the tailgate as well as the Line-X. That said it's still a nice spray in liner. I did have the running boards switched from my 2017 to my 2019 as I had them sprayed with premium Line-X and they have held up well and look brand new still.
Another option I had switched over was the Borla Touring exhaust from the 2017 to the 2019. That was part of the deal with the dealership as well as switching the running boards. I feel the Borla exhaust is a perfect match for the 5.0 and I get a big smile whenever I hear It start up and run, especially when you give it a little throttle.
I did have one small issue with this truck. They redesigned the cover plates on the rear grab handles from my 2017 to the 2019. The new ones have a one piece cover in the center that popped off a couple of times on the drivers side. I solved this by putting a little dab of silicone adhesive on each of the little clip tabs inside the handle and it hasn't popped off since.
I special ordered my truck in as I wanted a truck equipped with the features I wanted and didn't want to settle for one off the lot. One was the moonroof, that I didn't want as my 2016 had one and it did nothing but rattle. It's hard to find a Lariat without the moonroof and with the other features I wanted so special order is the way to go if you have the time to wait for your truck.
In summary I wouldn't change anything on my truck and would order the same powertrain and features again and hopefully it will perform the same in the future as it has the last 2 months and 1700 miles.

Save the Manuals!
Not possible. Everyone knows every single 2018-19 5.0 is burning oil and knocks like a diesel.

Great review. Can’t wait to take delivery of my special order 2019 3.5 EB Lariat HDPP later this week.
I wished to have the 5.0 like my actual 2016, but preferred to stay away from recent issues with this engine since 2018. Glad yours is trouble free.
Here is a pic in the dealer lot...
