Default 2.7L mileage - Yeah its good news

two weeks ago I bought a new 2016 F150 XL - Regular Cab - 4x4 - 101A Option package & Sport Option package.

2.7L twin turbo.

I wasn't overly impressed with the gas mileage at first - but based on the experience I had with my wife's new Nissan Rouge I knew I needed some miles on the mill before the gas mileage would kick in - maybe the computers just need some time to learn....who knows.

I was pulling 18mpg out of the box in mixed driving with 20mpg on the highway. SIGNIFICANTLY better than my old 5.4 - but still - I could get better with the 5.0 so I was a little disappointed.

I now have 1750 miles on the truck (yeah in 2 flippin weeks) and on my trip to the Ozarks this weekend I pulled 22mpg on the highway when running 77mph & when I slowed down to 70 I got over 25mpg.

Legit - I ran 700 miles like this, there & back - each mileage check was after no less than 30 minutes at speed. At one point I was getting 29mpg - but it didn't last long enough for me to count - I think I was going down hill toward the mississippi valley at that point.

Total average MPG since purchase is now at 21.5

Wish I knew how to add pics I'd show you my cluster pics

These trucks get great mileage. Congrats on the new Truck!!!

Just took the family, dog, and tons of gear to the beach over the last week.

Here I am at 307 miles in, 29MPG. I could do even better if I didn't have the normal family/dog/wife stops.

29MPG with a loaded down F150? I'll take it.

Its crazy to see such huge variations in mpg between owners. Granted I know driving styles, roads traveled, etc will all be different. But I've never even sniffed some of the mileage I've seen on this forum with my 2.7.

Go figure.

Yeah - I live in Illinois - Flat as my *** & you can drive for all day north to south & not see anything but corn.

Plus my truck is regular cab, so its light weight compared to some of the big 4 doors. It all adds up.

I'm going to build my own custom bed cover & see if I can eek out a couple more mpg

stops and hills kill gas mileage. Flat open interstate driving with no stops and you can get over 30 with these trucks.

My 29mpg includes starting from home in the country, country roads, hills, and stops.

I'll admit I was trying for good mileage, but not to a crazy level. I know I could hit over 30mpg with this truck if I tried.

Boost/vacuum gauge is the best way to get good mileage, keep it in vacuum or in low boost and you will see the numbers others see.
