Does the 2.7 come w/ the new 10-speed? Can you hear the turbo spool up nice and loud with the 2.7? Does the 2.7 come w/ LED's on the Lariat models? Also what about hauling capacity in the 2.7, is it the same as the 3.5.

This thread has a lot of good info in it. I am in the market for a F150 in the upcoming years and had my heart set on the 3.5. But I don't do any towing at most it would be a couple jet skis and some lawn equipment. Prob some plywood and shed building material in the screw short bed. The 2.7 should be able to handle that right?

For 2018 all but the base 3.3l v6 will have the 10 speed. For 2017 trucks only the 3.5eb gets the 10 speed. Engine choice doesn't matter on things like headlights when it comes to trim level options. The gvwr (curb weight plus cargo) will be a bit higher with the 2.7 because the engine is lighter than the 3.5. You need to compare gvwr for cargo, not gcwr (vehicle plus trailer) as the gcwr will be less with the 2.7. That does change with max payload and other packages you may add on.

lol yes any f150 engine can easily tackle those loads. The 2.7 will do it with best mpg. I towed a 3000-3500lb open trailer 1100 miles at 70 +/- mph and got 14.x mpg and that's with some good size hills
Thought that was pretty good.

I believe you have to get a Lariat or higher to get LED headlights and taillights. Don't know if that changes with the 2018 refresh.

LED taillights can be on XLTs, just a rare option. I think BLIS is only like $400 more

I considered the 2.7 briefly, but towing a 6300# trailer with the 3.5 I know how much stress it was under with the large frontal area, so nixed that idea.

About 2 months ownership on my 2017 4wd crew 2.7 ecoboost STX, never owned a a full size truck before and never owned anything with over 300 HP or this kind of torque numbers. To me this truck is quick and very comfortable! Great fuel economy too, mostly around 19.5 in town driving in the mountains of southern West Virginia. I Love how quiet this truck is too and can't even feel the smooth shifts unless your getting on her pretty hard! My Chevy buddies have all warned me turbos will go out the day after the warranty expires, the 2.7 ecoboost will blow at 100,000 miles and the truck will have no value, they really do hate Fords, I tell them well at least I'll have a nice looking no rust shell sitting in yard for years to come! Can't say this truck is better than a Chevy or RAM, but I sure do Love this big Race Red Ford, apparently so do a lot of other people do too, see a ton of them everywhere. I just tell the Bow tie guys it's just a tiny v6 and smile, they don't know what we know, the ecoboosts have a lot to offer and I'm pretty sure the Ford engineers gave these engines a lot of thought before dropping them in Fords main cash cow.

+1 John. The Ford engineers AND corporate finance folks have analyzed this turbo thing within a nanometer. They have to. Ford offers a turbo variant in EVERY single model they sell.

As an editorial comment - I do not believe the turbos will be less reliable because of the turbo. It's not terribly complex kit and about the only thing to go wrong is the bearing. And, it will - eventually.

For those of us who enjoy trucks, it's a great time to sit back and watch how the different manufacturers approach the market....and, how the market responds.

GM is out next with a new 2019. Dunno what RAM is doing - they outsold Chevy (by itself, not GM combined) a few times this year (monthly sales). They are definitely pressing forward....but, the 5.7l hemi is old, old old. Something new must be in the works.

I've got my fingers crossed that even though many turbos do have to be replaced that these Ecoboost ones will last. I know they can - my Dad's 12 year old Volvo is turbocharged, and he just passed 260K miles on the original turbo. Granted, a truck's duty is very different, but I've seen 2011 Ecos w/ 200K, 300K on the clock w/ the original turbos. Here's hoping ours last that long too.

Thanks Silver Surfer and MURICA, just never had nothing in my 54 years that runs this good or this nice, I bought what I could afford, and the STX is a pretty good looking poor mans truck, nothing fancy, but I do Love it! My old Tacoma was rough as a cob, slow and barely got 18 mpg, it was a 4.0 with a manual tranny, 4wd crew cab.
