Default 2.7 oil filter cap stem question

Hey all
i have 2.7 in my f150 and I went to do a oil change. When I was changing the small o ring on the Center stem it went off Center a bit and made a crack noise. Well a small piece of plastic came out when I tipped it over. And the stem came out. Looks like there are 4 tabs that attach it to the housing cap. There was 3 tabs left so I got it snapped in with the remaining 3. I wiggled it around and tried to pull it out and it seemed pretty solid for the most part. I’m going to order a new cap tomorrow as the dealer is closed today. But I’m saying that. I should be fine to drive it ? Oil pressure is right on mark with the gauge and it seems to run well. The fact that the stem was in there pretty good makes me think it’s more then fine. As when you screw the lid on it’s pressed into the housing anyway so it shouldn’t move around.
Thanks!

Mine broke too, I think there is even a TSP for it? not sure, you'de have to look.

Does it just holds the filter, so at worse you'll be letting some unfiltered oil leak through?

Im going to order a new one this week regardless.
It snapped back into place and was just as solid as before it broke so I’m not to concerned but was just wondering.

Thanks !

hearing people break them - I went ahead and ordered a new one to keep on the shelf in case I crack mine. I also keep a spare oil pan plug for the same reason. one of these days I'm going to change over to the new parts and clean off the old ones and put them on the shelf.

I don't want to have to get a new filter case at 2PM on a sunday when I'm changing the oil.

Didn't know the oil filter cap broke so easily I'm always afraid of breaking it when I tighten it down

I’m pretty sure that we not discussing the filter cap, but the narrow cylinder ish thing inside the filter cap.

I drove mine with it broken for a couple of oil changes. I think an oil change place broke it and didn't tell me. If you order a new one, they'll send you a new filter as well. As long as no broken pieces of plastic get in the oil passages, you should be ok. Just keep an eye on it.

Here is a link to purchase a new cap. It is a little pricey but at least the part number is there so it can be searched out for a better price.
