2.7 EcoBoost Oil Change
Just completed my first oil change on my 2.7 EcoBoost. Not bad at all, the cartridge filter cap has 3 O-Rings that have to be replaced. The 2 big ones are no problem, the 1 small one was kinda a pita to replace. Oil needs to drain a minimum of 30 mins. I still had fast steady drips at the 20 min. point, at 30 mins. they had slowed to 1 drop every 5-10 sec. The drain plug was interesting to say the least. It reminded me of a fill cap on a Stihl chainsaw. It screwed in & out, & clicked into place no problem. When checking your dipstick after filling it back up, you need to wait at least 20 mins. because it will show 1/2 qt - 3/4 qt low if you check it right away. The oil drainback time from the turbo & head take a while on these engines. Overall I like the cartridge filter on top of the engine better than a traditional screw on type, less mess.

I've done mine twice now. unless you have huge hands, i can fit a pinky into the drain hole, thats what she said, and you can feel a lip. i like to get a towel in there to get any extra oil that might be sitting there. i also jack up the front end. i usually let my vehicles drain for a few hours. i tinker with other stuff when doing oil changes.
i was surprised by the plug to. you don't even need a tool. i wonder if the o-ring on the plug needs replaced at every so many oil changes?

Thanks! I found another thread with some pictures, I would have been surprised when I went to do mine if I didn't see this. Can you get the cartridge anywhere or just dealers/online?

I changed my factory fill oil at 2,000 miles. I'll change it again at 5,000 miles, then stay on the every 5,000 mile schedule. Your oil picks up a lot of wear metals in the first couple thousand miles, that's why I change it like I do.
