How is the 2.7 Ecoboost with a 3.73 did for normal day to day driving? What kind of mileage are you getting? How does it do at freeway speeds?

Great question. I originally ordered my truck in that config, then called and switched it to the 3.5l eb with 3.55 instead.
Dealer didn't have one to drive w/ 2.7 and 3.73 so I got cold feet. Always wondered what it was like.

I have a 2.7 with 3.73 and I get get great gas mileage in my opinion. Right now while drive on the highway in at 23-24mpg (55-60mph) driving is about 18-19 mpg and thruway is 20-21mpg )70-75mph) New York State is where I am. These may vary 1 mile + or - depending on traffic. 2016 fx4

2.7 with 3.73 here. I get fantastic mileage up to about 70+ mph then I start seeing 19-24mpg. At about 50-55mph I get almost 30mpg. On average I would say on the highway going about 60-70 I get between 24-26 mpg. I would attribute the mileage change to the RPM's when you're cruising. RPM's are slightly higher with the 3.73 gearing, but it makes hill climbs a breeze.
Below is a trip meter I had not reset for 30,000+ km's. This was taken in the winter and I had steel rims, winter gas, was driving in 4x4 in deep snow etc, but I was down to 10.6L/100 km which works out to 22.2mpg. The mileage quadrant resets after 9999km's and it reset 3 times (Look at the time and fuel used).
City driving is still pretty good and acceleration is quick because of the gearing, but it doesn't take long to kill your mileage if you have a heavy foot.
I think the pairing of the 3.73 and 2.7 is great for power, hills and city driving, towing, even slower freeway driving because the engine has less work to do. If you do lots of highway driving doing 70+MPH and you never tow, then maybe a lower gearing would be better. Although for me, I never tow and I do lots of highway, 3.73 works great for me.

My lifetime average is 12l/100km, or close to 20mpg. Keep in mind half of my driving is in 4x4 on gravel roads (coastal bc logging roads) with E rated 33" Duratracs. Before I switched to heavy tired I was getting around 25mpg.
Super impressive truck.

I love my 2.7 with 3.73 gears. I do 80% city driving & having the 3.73 makes it a breeze in constant stop & go traffic. I averaged 23.5mpg on a recent 400 mile trip on the highway, & around 18mpg in the city. I just put a set of heavy 33.5" x 11.5" MT tires on it & my city mpg has dropped to 16mpg. But remember, it's a crew cab 4x4 with E load range MT tires getting 16mpg city & still 22mpg highway.

My truck seems to get worse on average compared to other 2.7s with 3.73s. I have a 15 Screw 4x4 and my lifetime average has been 17.5 mpg (calculated with an app) with as low as 15 mpg on my short 4 mi daily commute. Highest has been 21.6 mpg on a 150 mile round trip which I was absolutely babying it at 55 mph.
Love the truck in every way except the fuel economy. I probably have a lead foot but it still seems much worse than others. I do have 20" wheels so that may make a bit of a difference.

I have no idea how some folks are getting mpg reported above. I put 11K miles on mine and it has been averaging 17mpg hand calculated but if I subtract 1000 mile TT towing I did it will be in the 18.5mpg. I never go by lie-o-meter since that always reports 1.5mpg higher. I think I can get 19-20mpg in the summer but in the winter it will drop to 17-18mpg. Mine is completely stock. Btw I can get 20-22mpg on hwy one way or round trip doing to 65-72mph but mix driving it always averages out to 18-19mpg. Soon as I go over 75-80 mph it drops to 18mpg.
