Default 19 F150 3.5 Oil Change

I just completed my first oil change and I'm a little anxious about this one. Let the oil completely drain out then put in 5 quarts of oil instead of 6 to take my reading. I went ahead and filled the used oil that was in the drain pan into the 5 1 quart bottles. To my surprise the entire pan emptied into the 5 1 quart bottles.

I go to check my dipstick and the oil is reading right at the max fill line.

Am I good to go or should I go ahead and put in the 6th 1 quart bottle?

Of course not, but check level again after you use the truck, and check it cold, on a level surface. If you let oil drain enough, you should need 6 qts to the full mark at least. I needed about 6.25-qts. The oil filter holds quite a bit of oil, so if you didn't start the engine, that'll be your answer. If level stays at the top, then maybe Ford changed oil capacity for 2019, but really doubt it, as the 3.5TT engine already had a very modest amount of oil for a twin turbo 3.5L V6 IMO. Keep us posted on your results.

On my 2019 3.5EB:
  • 4 quarts brings oil level at the base of the hatch zone on dipstick (minimum)
  • 5 quarts brings oil level at the top hole on dipstick (maximum)
  • Then I start the engine to fill the new oil filter, then stop engine, let oil settle for few minutes.
  • The oil level is then back to the first hole on the dipstick (minimum)
  • Then I add a 6th quart that brings oil at the top of the hatch zone on dipstick (full mark)

This is it and is consistent with service manual. This procedure is performed on my garage floor (level).

Not sure what to say about yours getting only 5 quarts, it’s a big difference.

PS: I have a metal oil pan.

I may be reading more into this than I should, but did the OP ever say he changed the filter?

Ya I changed the filter. I ran the truck for about 15 minutes, let it settle and it shows the oil at middle of the dipstick. I went ahead and added the 6th quart for my own peace of mind. Maybe from the factory they put a little less in the engine for whatever reason...who knows.

If you didn't empty the oil from the filter into your drain tub that would account for some of it. The factory filter that was on mine was larger than the Motorcraft replacement filter.

Where did the 6th quart bring the oil level on your dipstick?

I did notice that as well but yes I drained that into the drain tub.

Don't know what "let it settle" means, but you need to allow at least 15 minutes before checking oil levels to get a proper reading. As far as draining out, I would allow 30 minutes.
