Are the 18s more problems than the 17s
Seeing as how I messed up my other post
I see it seems more tranny issues with the 18s and more complaints..I have been looking at a 18 and a 17...
curious as to your experience

Well, the 17 5.0 and 2.7 still had the 6 speed vs the 10 speed for 2018. The 3.5 EB shouldn't be any different as they both have the 10 speed, if anything the 18 should have fewer problems as they've had a year to work it out.

Yea I want the 5.0
just seems like I see guys with the 18s saying they have tranny issues they never did with the 16 or 17

A lot of the issues have to do with the trans tuning and Fords desire to keep everything locked up for the best fuel economy. Also when looking at the 17, that's many years of refinements and updates to the 6r80 transmission, while they have had significantly less time with the 10r80.

I have a 2017 with the 5.0 and 6 speed. No complaints so far. Transmission always shifts nice and smooth. Went with the 5.0 because I plan to keep the truck for 10 years and need to tow a 25' boat short distances (10 miles at the beginning of the boating season and 10 miles at the end of the season).

Get the 10-spd. Best tranny I've had in a truck or a Ford! Had the 6R80 in my '09 and liked that, too, but the new 10R is better by far.
There's a million+ trucks out there with the new process trans and only a handful of threads with owner issues.

I had a rental 2018 3.3 last week with the old 6 speed and it actually made me miss the 6 speed in my old 2015. I've had no complaints with my 2018 5.0 10 speed transmission at all but I was really impressed with the smoothness of the older transmission compared to mine. Sometimes simpler is better.

The reason the older 6-spd feels smoother is because of the aggressive lock-up algorithms Ford uses to program the new tranny to achieve the higher mileage rating.
Shifts are much more firm, unlike the old "slush box" shifts most drivers are used to. I actually prefer it, but obviously many owners complain about the harshness.
