Can you describe which rattle you are talking about, ie after starting, constant, short, idle, load, when does it happen, etc

The rattle in the trans was mostly hot after it had sat 10-30 min then start and i sounds like it was starving for fluid. Rocks in a can sound also it made the same noise when in manual mode just sitting there switching between 1st and 2nd

I wanted to provide an update. I can heae the same noise faintly when the engine is warm. I don't know if this is new or if I'm just now noticing it.

Do we know what changes were made to the VCT and Cam Phasers on the 2nd gen. engine? A relative has a 2016 3.5 and it is silent.

Getting a second opinion was recommended by the Ford Customer Service Manager. I also told her that I want Ford Engineering to get involved as I believe this to be a VCT solenoid or Cam Phaser issue. She said she will make a note for a Field Service Engineer to look at my case. Finally I asked her to check to see if perhaps an updated VCT solenoid or Cam Phaser is available for my truck....she didn't really have an answer. Hopefully the dealer can figure that out for me.

More to come......
Do you have 3.5 or 5.0?

Too many rattles with these trucks and both engines have been discussed in this thread.

I have a 2018 5.0 that rattles from the VCT solenoid (or can be felt there) when taking foot off gas.

Yes. This sound is anything but normal. So far the Ford rep. Cindy, at Ford Canada has deemed this noise unworthy of further diagnostics thus leaving me with no hope of a fix. The dealership didn't replace one part nor did they take anything apart to investigate what the problem could be. Ford should be ashamed. Their thinking is the "camphasers". But if its pinpointed, why not replace something? Ugh... Fix Or Repair Weekly... hopefully I can get out of this before it turns to Daily.

so glad I got out of mine, went with the inferior Tundra and couldn't be happier other than the MPG.

Poor crash ratings, tow capacity, and lack of features don't bother you?

I just test drove one last week. They are good trucks for sure. Of course less features but I would take that over poor mechanical engineering. If I wasn't upside down on the f150 it would be done already.
