the engine did not rattled like this from day 1, so it’s difficult to imagine how this could be good.

Would really like to review the mechanical design criteria, qa/qc process, and occurrence rate on this issue.

Concerned no one has responded with a satisfactory fix.

I know this happens to hopefully a small percentage of vehicles, but threads like this are driving me to a gas Super Duty. If Ford could identify the cause(s) I would jump on a 2018 HDPP today.
Ford will eventually figure these problems out but it will probably take two more model years. I had a brand new 1998 Explorer with the new 4.0 SOHC back in the day and that thing rattled at 2200 RPM the entire 100K miles I had it. In that case it was timing chain guides front and back.

Here are the videos of what I'm experiencing. This morning it was 30 degrees. The engine starts normally using the remote start and I can't hear anything abnormal as the video shows. Once in drive, light taps of the accelerator produce the rattle. You can hear it at the 2, 19, 22, and other times near the end. I describe it as sounding like gears grinding when trying to put a manual transmission into gear without the clutch fully depressed, although its not really a metallic sound. I cannot reproduce the noise after 10 minutes or when warmed up.

Sounds like when the timing chain stretches from acceleration and then let’s off, it’s hitting the sides/guides causing the noise. Just my uneducated guess.

Identical to mine... No rattle on start up, no rattle when on/off gas in park/neutral, same rattle when lifting off the accelerator under load (drive/reverse). Stops doing it after about a mile or so of driving. I drop mine off this afternoon... I'll make sure to post updates as I have them.

Same cold engine rattle but only while in drive on my 2018 Lariat SuperCrew with 3.5L that has 300km on it. I am going to ask the dealership about it and at least get it recorded in case something bigger comes up.

Quick update. To my surprise the dealer was able to recreate the noise without my involvement, I'll take that as a good sign. They had their engine technician looking at it yesterday afternoon and I should get an update today.
