I know I'm a few years too late but this is the best description of defensive driving I've ever heard

My 13 didn't have crash bars and I walked away unhurt. I'm glad my 15 has them, but the previous gen holds up well in a crash. BTW I was hit head on by a full size Buick.

Crash bars aren't for that type of impact. They are for offset frontal impacts.

Since this has been dredged back up, I'd like to mention what I noticed when I first saw the video in 2015:

When the supercrew impacts the barrier, the wheel remains between the barrier and the cab, distributing impact force to the firewall of the cab, over the large area of the wheel.

When the supercab impacts the barrier, the wheel slips around the side of the barrier, leaving the edge of the barrier to impact the corner of the cab. This would have resulted in much larger forces being applied where the cab impacted the barrier. I don't think these two tests can be considered equal. Should the supercrew have impacted the barrier in a manner in which it's wheel also slipped past the barrier, it should have suffered the same fate, worse even due to it's heavier weight, unless they added strength to the supercrew cab to account for the weight difference.
