'15 screw budget audio build
I have to say this site has been a wealth of information, and thanks to everyone who contributes to the forum.
I figured i would share what I am currently working on and the cost as i think some maybe interested in a similar setup.
So what we know on the 2015 screw they have 6x9 up front and 6.5 in the rear
I decided to use use the same speaker in all four corners.
I considered a few brands like alpine, JL, Hertz and Polk.
I am a shopper and check all available outlets before making my decision
what it came down to was price vs performance
and I settled on the Polk Audio DB 675
Its a marine rated speaker( someone commented water gets in the doors, so better safe than sorry)
I got them off of eBay for $49.99/ pair including shipping
Direct from Polk Audo via the eBay store they have
http://www.ebay.com/itm/391365646857?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Specs are as follows
2way 6-3/4" speakers (pair)
polymer/mica composite woofer with butyl rubber surround
liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite 1" dome tweeter
suitable for marine use
2-way crossover network
recommended power range: 6-60 watts RMS
peak power handling: 180 watts
frequency response: 35-22,000 Hz
sensitivity: 92 dB
top-mount depth: 2-7/16"
warranty: 1 year
it was the sensitiivity that sold me, as well as i had a set DB's 3 cars ago and liked the sound.
I then found on eBay the speaker adaptors
Metra 82-5607
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182007172872?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITThis converts the stock ford opening from that funky size to accept a 6.5-6.75 speaker
$15 shipped
Then it was off to my favorite online retailer, Amazon!
I got 2 sets of Metra 72-5602 speaker harness connector at $7.95 each shipping included
and then 2 sets of Dynamat 10415 (10x10 extreme) at $14.85 each
and finally a 5 piece door/ trim removal set for $5.99
Total so far is $166.53, thats 4 speakers, 4 wire adaptors, 2 speaker adaptors, 4 sheets of Dynamat extreme and tools that ill need to get the doors off.
Plans are to install this weekend, as i don't have all the parts yet.
I opted for this route first vs adding an amp like the Alpine 445-U and the harness found on eBay from the UK as it was the almost the same cost( amp is $109 and wire harness is 25 for a total of $134 or a $32 difference)
my thoughts/ research indicates a speaker with better sensitivity, that can take an amp if needed would be the best first step to take.
From there I can then decide if there is enough bass for my liking or if i need to add a sub/ amp
I have already researched that as well and have 2 options that i could use, the alpine 445U and wire harness for $134 or, the JL HX 280/4 and the harness for $235.
If i go with the JL, Ill be using it as a 3 channel setup, not sure the alpine can do that, and will power the fronts with 50w x2 and then a sub at 140W x1
That means adding a sub and to keep it simple I would use JL microsub at $209.
best case budget is $166
Speakers and alpine amp $300.53
or worst case speakers amp and sub for $610
I realize that i will need some wire for the amp, and I may have a remnant laying around the garage that could work, if not Metra Raptor amp kits are $30-$40 for what i would need, for an all in price less than the cost of the "factory sub" for the non sony MFT stereo(that being $695)
I am open to hear of your opinions on the amp and sub, as the plan is to install the amp if needed under the center stack as i have a 6 passenger and no center console to deal with

its the right part number from what i have read, they just have it listed under a kia, but that should not matter as it looks correct and has the number that has been used already by others on this site

forgot to mention that I attempted to get a before SPL with an app on my iPhone
as to try and be more subjective than it" sounds better"
Phone was sitting on top of the center console with volume at 1/2 on the dial planing
Panic! at the disco - Death of a bachelor
its got low, highs, and vocals so i figured it was a decent test track

Can you please kindly post us the stock speaker dimension? Especially the depth?
I am debating alpine vs Polk. And I hope to use the stock frame without using any adaptor. I hope it will work.
Thanks.
