A comment that has to be considered.
Anytime there are metal particles found, the proper way is the whole original Trans has to come apart and cleaned and air blown out to be sure there are no particles passed to other parts that will wreck the repair soon after it is completed and driven.
The original issue could have been identified by code set, but that was never specified in this post.
If the Torque converter or clutch was slipping, the PCM knows by Sensor detection speed motion between parts difference and sets a code to that effect.
Good luck.

The dealership here is going to replace the entire transmission after finding metal in it, they said it is not cost effective to do what you just said, take it completely apart and re-build it and such.

Hey Bob_72,
Can I ask what you stated when calling Ford Customer Service for expense assistance? I'm having the exact same issue w/my 2018 F150 3.5L Ecoboost Lariat. My F150 is currently in the shop w/only 35k miles (5yr PT warranty just ended in 8/23) and the dealer just informed me I need a new 10R80 + cam phase replacement. I get the actual quote via email but advisor stated it was $10k+ for replacement of both. I informed him I was aware of the multiple TSBs for both issues for defective 10R80 / Cam Phasers. Can you please advise maybe key points you brought up when asking Ford CS for expense assistance. I feel Ford should pay for the whole thing but if they can pay $40%-70% of the total cost would be GREAT!

Ford corporate covered 60% of my total bill.

Number is 866-631-3788

Your going to need your VIN the amount of miles on the vehicle and you need to have the issue already known, they wont help till they know what the issue is they are going to have to contact your ford dealership. The dealership said that my transmission was gone and that they would simply replace it, corporate needs to know the exact issue apparently which means my dealership had to remove the oil pan from the transmission where they found excessive small metal. They had to do that in order for corporate to start assisting with the pay.

So steps are: Have your truck at a dealership.
Call the cooperate number talk with a person get a case started, they will reach out the the dealership to determine what's all wrong,
They will eventually get back to you with what they are going to cover. Corporate offered 45% assistance right away. I spoke with the manager of my service department and he spoke to corporate on my behalf and got it up to 60%.
You agree to whatever they come up with.
They fix it.
You pay.

Oh and you call that number and you just say I'm looking for finical assistance. I would not bring up all the TSB's and known issues with the truck model as the corporate person your talking to does not really care. I did it with my call and it didn't seem to really do anything. I think the best thing is to maybe go into your dealership and have a talk to with the service department manager and get on his good side. I would have a talk with him after you hear back from corporate the first time and let him know about your feelings with this being a known issue with this model of truck and everything. He's going to help you the most. He's also going to be talking with corporate when they discuss what's wrong with the truck and all that.

Perfect,
Thanks for the info. I’ll definitely use this when calling tomorrow morning to start a claim for financial assistance + I’ll reach out to service manager. Thanks again.
Much appreciated

Update: So, I contacted Ford Corporate (866-631-3788) and was assigned to a rep named Rae. I was extremely polite and stressed how I needed financial assistance for a $14k-$15k repair cost. She acted like she was going to do everything she could to help, then come to find out she never spoke to my service advisor or Service Manager at my dealer to get all the repair details/cost. She simply waited to the end of the day to send me an email stating there are no Ford programs that fit my profile for the issues I have and closed the case. I called and spoke to a supervisor, and he was also no help and literally said the same + me not being a loyal customer? I stated I've owned 3 mustangs (1-SVT Cobra + 2-GTs) and this F150 w/ no issues ever. He told me to write a letter to Ford Consumer Affairs (PO Box) to escalade this issue, which takes 15-30 days for a response. It's crazy due to my service advisor + service manager acknowledged the 2 items I have are known defective issues w/2018 F150 10R80 + Cam Phasers. I honestly don't know what to do as I'm going to go pick up my truck tomorrow.

San Tan Ford Dealer Diagnosis Replacement Cost:
  • 10R80 Transmission Replacement: $10k
  • Cam Phasers (4) Replacement: $4k

Below is the email I sent to Ford Customer Service Corporate for financial assistance. After my morning conversation w/rep.
----------------------------
Afternoon Rae,
I'm reaching out to get an update to verify if you were able to talk to my Service Advisor (James Rubio) 480-621-3757 about the open case: CXH-02232886. I called my advisor James earlier and left a VM stating you were going to reach out to him for repair detail info + cost. I also left the Service Manager (Michael Peek) a VM to inform him if the open Case #. Please let me know if you need any more info on my end to determine financial assistance.

FYI: I'd like to mention I took extreme care of my truck, always performing routine maintenance w/Ford every 5-6months and none of these issues were detected during standard inspections (under warranty). I don't drive aggressively and have never taken my truck off-roading. If you look online there are multiple TSBs for both issues I currently have. This tells me these are known defective parts from the manufacturer. I can't stress enough to PLEASE help w/financial assistance for these repairs as I feel I'm being punished for taking care of my vehicle when in doubt this is a known issue w/Ford for defective 10R80 transmissions + defective Cam Phasers. I honestly feel both these issues are Warranty-Able due to if this was last year all this would be covered under factory warranty (Powertrain / 5Yr / 60,000mi).

PLEASE HELP!

Also, I did a CarFax to confirm the mileage of my 2018 F150 when I purchased it in 8/2019 (13,423mi)
  • Ford F150 MFG Date: 8/2018
  • My purchase date: 8/2019 (13,423 mi)
San Tan Ford Dealer Diagnosis Replacement Cost:
  • 10R80 Transmission Replacement: $10k
  • Cam Phasers Replacement: $4k

Following this closely. 21k on my 2.7 Supercab RWD. Mine sounds like a "house of horrors" at start up with chains in trans rattle until put in gear. This is not good to hear.

So I bought my Ford used with 20K miles on it and it was my first ever Ford so I'm not sure how I qualified for assistance then. One thing that might have helped was that I was getting an oil change at Ford and they crashed another car into mine and got free oil change for a year and they obviously repaired the damage. Unsure how they decided if your accepted or not for assistance. Sorry to hear that
