10 speed transmission issues?

From what I've seen with the Mustang crowd, you either get a good one or a bad one. Some fail with a stock car and others are putting over 1,000whp through them and they are somehow surviving.
Overall, I'd say they are fairing very well with the vast majority of people having no problems and the Mustang crowd going stupid, stupid fast with them.
I know the driveline tech at our local Ford dealer and he is not seeing problems in any real numbers with them. Told me to not hesitate to buy my truck.
The biggest problem people seem to have is the same exact problem that people have had since the invention of these adaptive learning transmissions...inconsistent or irritating upshift/downshift stuff. Not mechanical failures. Just programming related issues that have haunted all manufactures for 15+ years.

I only have about 3,500 miles on my truck so far, but I absolutely love this transmission. It is butter smooth, and I haven't had any issues with it hunting for gears at all. The different drive modes are actually very distinct from each other and you can tell the change in shifting algorithms from Normal to Sport to Eco modes. I like how it skips gears depending on how hard you're accelerating, and it downshifts differently depending on how aggressively you mash down to pass someone. My last car was a 2010 Infiniti G37 with a 7-speed, and that thing was hunting all the time, and would often not have the right gear when I mashed down on the gas pedal. But this Ford 10-speed is pretty dynamite.
The only problem with my testimonial is that I only have 3,500 miles on the truck and I can not speak to longevity at all. Hopefully others will chime in that have lots of miles on theirs.
Hope this helps.

My 2017 3.5TT/10 speed combo has been perfect for 24K miles. My only issue is this transmission makes some weird noises and has the occasional clunk when rolling slowly and then hitting the go pedal again. But 99% of the time it's as smooth as can be and I don't even notice the shifts most of the time. I would say it's smoother than my 2014 that had the old 6 speed. I just had to learn to ignore the weird the noises and it's all good.

For better or worse, the 170 engine thermostat I put in mine seemed to make the transmission run a little cooler also. Something to consider if you're seeing temps higher than you like.

Because the 10Rs use an oil-to-water cooler... so if you keep the engine coolant cooler, you do the same for the trans.

Are you asking how he replaced the actual t-stat? I haven't done it in this truck but have in several cars, you shouldn't have to drain TOO much coolant and it's usually relatively not so bad to do. There seem to be a few places to buy the 170f thermostat for ~$40-50 average
