I have 500 miles on my 2018 - when it's cold it shifts a little hard. After warming up it's the best tranny I've had in probably 20+ new trucks/cars I've had. Always in the right gear and downshifts nicely.

35k on mine, no issues whatsoever. Drove a 16 with a 6 speed a while back and man did it make me love my 10 speed.

19000kms no issues like the previous posts. Love it it is very smart. Leaps ahead of the 6spd in my 15 13 10 and 09.

Mine used to do that. However, it doesn't really do it any longer. I have 13K miles on it. Honestly, I don't know if the transmission shifting has been programmed by my driving or if my driving has been programmed by the transmission...LOL...either way, that surge seems to have pretty much disappeared.

the 10 speed was created to eek out a smidgen more MPG, IMO its not a better transmission than the 6 speed. ford only went to it for more MPG, that was the driver. its a more complex transmission, which isn't helpful. BUT I don't think I have read about very many total failures of the transmission, certainly no more than what you would see with parts that have been out for a while.
Yes it does do the lunge forward when it skips to 3rd quite often. I do believe that they can and will resolve that with a transmission update.

For me this is all i can say after 10k miles:

It makes a decent bit of noises on a cold start
It can lunge from 1st into 3rd depending how fast you're going and throttle input when it goes to shift
When it's cold the shift into 5th gear is definitely pretty hard, BUT, it goes away as it warms up
Also when cold it can be a bit slow when it does the skip shifting, also goes away as it warms up
If it's stone cold (under 30 degrees) it is pretty slow going into reverse, like maybe a full second to shift into reverse

you bring up another point. in some situations I have been annoyed because its slightly too slow going into reverse. I know it does that and made a driver adjustment.

Has anyone experienced any engine "lugging" with it at any gear? My 2015 has been in the shop for a week now because the engine will turn at (barely) 1K RPM while in 4th or 5th and its been sputtering. Also had the TSB/SSM for the hard/harsh 5/4 downshift.

I'm getting tired of my POS 2015 so looking at jumping to a '17 with the 10 speed.

Thanks for the input.

What if you're towing first thing in the morning and the tranny is cold? How hard do you feel the shift/lunge with a trailer behind you? That would worry me a bit.

Can't say one bad thing about the 10 speed transmission. Had nothing bad to say about the previous 6 speed transmissions either but feel that the 10 speed is an improvement. Have about 14,000 miles on the 2017 now with about 2,000 of that towing a travel trailer. We had a week of -30 degree temps here recently so that put things to the test. It is the smoothest shifting transmission I have ever had, works very well for towing, and am very happy with it. Can't say it allows the engine to lug as it always seems to be in the right gear but yet does not overshift or hunt between gears.

30K on mine and has been a pleasure to drive. Best transmission I've ever had. Has the startup rattle but it doesn't seem to hurt anything. It's done it since day one.
