I have a 2018 XLT with the 5.0 and 10 speed, no issues to report, it's a very smooth shifting transmission.

No problems at all at 7k miles, shifts great and adds a little better performance and fuel economy.

I'm not sure WTF those guys are talking about "widespread problems"

More like "widespread nitpicking" about either noises it makes or how it shifts when it's cold.

No issues on my 2017 w/10-speed. I only have 13K miles, but it’s working like a good transmission.

I have just over 3k on mine. It shifts a little hard when it's cold outside and the truck hasn't warmed up. Other than that it shift fine. I lot better than some other transmissions I have had in trucks over the years.

The people that "slam" the 10 speed the most are those that don't even have one.... Therefore I would take their 10 speed comments with that in mind.

I think the 10 speed is mostly going to be ok, if there were really really bad problems with it we would know by now. Mine has the harsh shift when cold, which is annoying. I have tried a couple things to dimish it with mixed success, letting the truck run for a few moments before taking off. shifting, drive, reverse then drive again.

another annoying thing about it to me is the skipped 2nd gear shift. my truck goes form 1st to 3rd on take off a lot. sometimes this causes the truck to lunge if I am in a parking lot or something. its an annoyance. I think both issues can be fixed with a reflash of the software.

the 10 speed was created to eek out a smidgen more MPG, IMO its not a better transmission than the 6 speed. ford only went to it for more MPG, that was the driver. its a more complex transmission, which isn't helpful. BUT I don't think I have read about very many total failures of the transmission, certainly no more than what you would see with parts that have been out for a while.

In normal mode I believe it always skips 2nd gear (for 2017 anyway). It only uses 2nd gear for tow mode, not sure about sport mode because I don't use it much since it drives too much like a sports car.

If you really want to use 2nd gear then use one of the other modes then switch back when done. I have done this in the morning when leaving home for work and it worked fine. Right now I don't need to do it but if I ever go aftermarket exhaust I will so I don't wake up the neighborhood.

I highly doubt there's a transmission out there that hasn't registered an issue of some sort. I doubt that this 10 speed will be any different. 99.9999% are probably fine, including mine. Love it!

I agree with your 2nd paragraph I have also felt that in parking lots and it's really bad when there's snow on the ground!!!Otherwise it's been fine almost 4,000 miles so far.
