Couldn't avoid it. As it came onto the highway it sprinkled fist sized rocks all over the road. One bounced and dinged my hood and cracked my windshield.
I have no knowledge of body work so looking for opinions .......... new hood or will it rub out? I'm thinking it will still have to be painted if I go the dingman route???
Bummer, that sucks, the dump trucks should be required to have fabric load covers, they are all over my high construction area. The first pictures sure shows a dent, so that needs to be addressed and then painted. Shop around for your windshield replacement these prices vary considerably.
i would try a paintless dent repair service to fix dent looks like it will need paint can't use bondo on aluminum so either that or a new hood if you have full coverage your ins. will cover at no increase in premiums as it was not your fault
I avoid being behind these trucks. When I see them losing material on the road I call the company and let them know. Get the truck number from the side of the door or rear of the truck. Generally, they are concerned and want to avoid problems like this. They have asked me if I had damage but fortunately I avoided it.
Get an estimate and price all 3 options. The paint is breached, so you'll need to paint whether you do a new hood, pdr plus paint, or conventional repair.
Sometimes new is lower cost, but you'll want to blend the color into the fenders. Pdr and conventional, you will save blend time, but aluminum is typically double labor. So if that were steel, it'll be about 6-7 hours conventional. But it's aluminum, so that will go up to 10-12 hours. Then it all depends on the shops labor rate. Which all depends on your area. And yes, aluminum can be repaired with body filler.
Those are the options I would explore. Any other questions, I'm a 25 year auto painter, aluminum certified. Was at Ford for 7 years
Years ago....like 2001 I had just bought a brand new Toyota Tundra. I was driving home after working night shift. I was on a 4 lane highway going through town and saw a flatbed truck in front of me with all kinds of unsecured metal and other ***** on it with pieces falling off and bouncing down the road. I had just enough time to accelerate out of that lane and past the truck before getting struck. Just as I cleared the truck and moved back over into that lane I see a motorcycle cop sitting on the side of the road with his radar gun pointed at me. He wrote me up for going 55 in a 45. Sometimes it's just not your day. I hope the op was able to get his truck repaired to his satisfaction.
