I painted the chrome bumper on this '73 Camaro using this method. The body tech then dropped it, and scratched/gouged the paint. But it did not peel. I feathered out all the scratches and re did it, with no issues. I think it will be fine.

What about Plastidip? Or is this for paint only?

Any thoughts or opinions on the products from automotivetouchup.com

I'm wanting to ptm my grill surround and other parts. The aerosol cans are appealing for me since I don't have a spray gun. If PPG is the better choice how do I go about getting it? Any pointers appreciated.

I've never ordered or seen anything used from automotive touch up.com so I have no valid opinion on it.

I mainly did this thread because many members were having body shops deny them painting chrome. Saying it couldn't be done. O'Reilly's auto parts sells paint. Well some do. The one near me sells Nason paint, which for cheap paint, is really good. We use it at my work for fleet vehicles.

You can do this with cans. I paint for a living, so I always go with the pro stuff. Harbor freight junk sells really cheap spray guns. Good for small stuff. I wouldn't use them at my day job, but to bust out a grill surround/couple of emblems in my garage? Sure.

Cool thanks. I was actually looking at vinyl wrapping everything but personally I like paint better.

Thought I'd throw this in here, here is my new grille. Put it on yesterday.

This was an all chrome newer lariat grille. I'm not sure what year they started doing this style.

Only thing I do differently now than my original post is, I use bulldog adhesion promoter. Which I would highly recommend.

I didn't snag a pic of it all chrome, sorry.

The center insert was done with, 2 coats bulldog, one coat flexed dark gray sealer, 3 coats Ford UA ebony black activated, and 2 coats flexed matte clear, mixed for an eggshell finish.

Surround was done with, 2 coats bulldog, 1 coat flexed light gray sealer, 3 coats E4 vermilion red activated, and I did 4 coats of flexed premium clear. I did 4 coats because I kind of laid out the bulldog a little thick, and it had some orange peel, so I blocked it flat and buffed.

Edit:

We had a lariat come in today, so I snagged a pic for a ''before'' so you can see it chrome
