ticking noise
#14
I had a ticking sound in mine last week and then my engine light came on.
I took it to Advanced Auto and they ran a diagnostic on it and said it was mis-firing on cylinder 1.
i took the cap off where the spark plug was and then damn thing was shattered in there. The porcelain around the spark plug was in pieces and when I finally got the spark plug out, the bottom metal sleeve (what the spark lug ignites to) was still down in the engine bay.
I took the truck to my local ford dealership and they said this is a common problem with the triton V8.. Its still there right now and not sure how much its gonna cost to fix or if the warranty will even still cover it. I will try and keep you posted.
I hope this doesnt happen to anyone else.

Ok here is the update.
I got my truck back and 7 of the 8 plugs broke off in the head.
I fought with the guy at the local dealership to persuade the warranty company to cover it and it finally paid off. However they only covered taking off one of the heads being removed and all labor to do that. I had to fork out the rest for the other head to be removed. I went ahead and had them change out all the spark plugs at the same time.
Total Bill was $1,600 and some change that warranty covered and I had to pay $180 for the other head.
I bought all new plugs at advanced auto for 7.20 a piece over the dealers price of 17.99 a piece.
Grand Total was around $1,850
Out of pocket about $250
I guess it could have been a lot worse.
I personally think that this is a load of crap though. Ford put a bad setup on these tritons as far as plugs and heads go and we have to pay to get it fixed. I'm surprised there isn't a lawsuit or a recall on this yet. The dealer said they have these problems all the time and most don't get covered cause its a plug issue from motorcraft. BUT Ford owns motorcraft.. Sounds kinda fishy

yeah i have a 2005 with a 5.4L and it sounds like a diesel with all its injector clicking...i notice it the most at idle near buildings where it echoes back. its very annoying, but the engine runs flawlessly, and it goes away once the engine gets above idle rpm, so i doubt there is a problem other than its annoying. has anyone else heard of this?

Resident A-hole
Its normal for a slight clicking from the injectors and (crap I can't think of what its called) The part that advances the camshaft will click slightly. If it sounds like a diesel that is way to loud and needs to be addressed.
