So my 05 f150 has 205k miles on it. Recently put new tires, new shocks and struts, new tie rods. The breaks are great and the drivechain in the rear just got some new pistons and bearings. So here's the deal. The mechanic told me that it's got a bit of loss of power, probably from the check engine light that reads "cam timing over retarded".


Here's the contemplation. I've got a guy that usually doesn't charge more than $25 hour for labor, and hes a family friend so if I helped him out he wouldn't charge near as much. I'm thinking about rebuilding the engine and the transmission and upgrading the torque converter along with an aftermarket air intake. What are your opinions? I love the truck and don't want to get rid of it... Sorry if I'm making stupid points here.


How many hours would each take and if you could recommend a kit for me, for the engine and the transmission, let me know.




The truck is an 05 f150 XLT 4x4 truck.

Here's an engine kit I've found, is there anything I'm missing or a cheaper/ Upgrade kit. I want a truck with some speed behind it that also looks great.
