Default Hose that hooks to rear axel broke. What's it for?

Just bought a '95 F150 XLT 4x4. It had a hose hanging that broke from the axel. It doesn't seem to be leaking anything but I don't know anything about cars so let me know what it's for. Thanks

If your brakes are working fine that is the vent tube for the rear axle. If you offroad the truck at all replace it as soon as possible. If its not an offroader then its not nearly as urgent to replace it. A good length of rubber hose up as high as you can get it with a one way valve at the top is all you need.

Default Thanks for the info

Brakes work fine so that must be what it is. As soon as it quits raining it will be fixed. Thanks again.

ya that is definately the vent hose for the rear axle. i had an 88 and a 97 f150 and it happened to both of them. just a piece of hose fixes it.
