Default Engine Swaps????

Hey everybody, I have got a 97 F150 4.6l 4wd, and I have been trying to get as much information as possible on doing an engine swap to something that will help me with my massive upgrade. I wanna try to find a 5.4l to put in there but I dont want a 2valve engine I was hoping to go for something that breathes a little better like the 5.4L 4valve from a Lincoln Navigator, just looking for incite on this project of mine anything that is benefical is much appreciated.

Thx Ray.

The firing order is different between the sohc and the dohc but this can be fixed buy switching the wires around on the coils and injectors (You may need to extend some of the wires) and of course you will need the intake and exhaust manifolds etc. for the dohc. The torque will be worth it!

All the 4.6 and 5.4 modular engines use the same firing order, 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. The 5.0 Coyote will be different.

I've pulled a 4.6 and a 5.4. Both are a PTA to pull. Since the motor sits so far back you need to hook your chain up where your lifting more of the front of the motor to clear Motor mounts then re hook your chain to pull straight up. Also we took off plenum for more room and helps a lot. They both bolt up the same. The 5.4 I pulled had the heavier duty transmission behind it. Just my .02 cents worth. Keep us posted.

Remove the intake manifold and the engine slides right out and back in. Tip: Once the tranny and torque converter bolts are removed jack up the tranny to help the engine clear the lower motor mounts.

Default Bigger engine 4.6 to 5.4

Okay I know you guys have gone over this but I am still a little confused. I have a 2005 F150 4x4 long box, auto trans, 3.73 gears and a 4.6 liter engine. I need more power to tow my wifes trailer. So talk to me like I am in grade school: This is the engine I can get, it has 33,000 miles on it for 2200.00, 2005 Engine Ford Truck F150(5.4L,3V,SOHC,

1.Is this a yank out put other engine in and go kind of swap?
2.Should all wires plug in?
3. Should exhaust fit up - but hey I may as well get headers
4. Does any one have some detailed instructions on this?
Thanks for ANY input
Jim

1- It will bolt in place of the 4.6.
2- No, your 4.6 is a two valve engine and its harness lacks the part for the variable valve timing.
3- It can be made to fit for a few $$$
4- Not that I know of. You will need at the very least the 5.4 engine harness and PCM.
