nooo keep both! Trucks are great when you need them, but when you aren’t hauling use the car... that’s what I do anyway.

Default 2013 V8 5.0 High RPM excursion at start-up

Howdy men, I have a 2013 F-150 V8 5.0 w/ 107K miles. Bought it at 30K miles, ran smooth as butter. A while back I had a cylinder replacement on it @ 90K miles, ever since she’s had high RPM at start up and sounds slightly weaker. Still runs like a beast, but every morning and sometimes multiple times in a day, it’ll take a good 2-3 minutes for RPM’s to idle sta start-up. I have not yet done my 100K engine tune up so that could be my issue. But I have had my spark plugs worked on/replaced recently.
Anybody else w/ same problem? Should I be worried about my vehicle’s life expectancy?

Default 2002 f150 4.6 2 valve

Every time you cold start it idles at 1000-1500rpm for a few minutes before slowly going down to normal idle of around 600rpm. Takes up to 5 minutes to idle down sometimes. Is this normal or what should I check?

I bought a 2016 Focus a year ago, glad I did, the gas sipping is a big plus now. It's a naturally aspirated 4 banger so I think it will keep my f150 company for a while. But damn is it looooow to the ground. Hope my back holds up.

My question is it can't be good for cold starts, did I do something incorrectly? I thought it was pretty easy. I used CRC Mass air flow sensor cleaner.....

Any Ideas?

be careful about cleaners, sometimes it'll relocate debris rather than get rid of it.

What seems unknown about high cold start Idle is that it is normal.
Reason:
Every cold start and hot re-start does an Emissions test on the CATS.
This was implemented in 2007 and modified in 2010 to meet Fed. Law.
.
How it works in general:
At cranking time the PCM looks at the Ambient Temp indicators to know its a cold start.
Throttle is opened to let more air in and causes the high Idle.
Ignition Timing goes very retarded for more heat in the exhaust, then returns advanced as the test proceeds and idle comes down.
Fuel is set very rich to help heat the CATS for cold starts testing.
Checks for any faults involving the procedure the first 15 seconds.
After this time, the Cats Temp rise inside 300 seconds or 5 minutes time interval is observed for Pass or FAIL from the rear Ox Sensors reading provided.
At end of test, Idle returns to normal for the vehicle under test.
Once started, it cannot be stopped by driving off. Only stops with Ignition off but will initialize and run again if engine is re-started. Can't get around it by LAW.
On a hot / warm re-start, the time is shortened. This timing is kept track of by a timing chip in the PCM.
This information can be found in the Ford Doc 'OBDII Overview.' section Doc for Gas engines.
If looking at the DOC for year 2018 Gas engine, page 152 describes it.
These actions can all be seen on an advanced Scanner looking at Live data and even Graphed to see it work over the time interval.
And now you know!
Good luck.
