I think the new gen engines will be good when new and have lower miles but as many of us like to keep our trucks longer, they won't last like the current generation...

I recall that more technology means less tinkering and more maintenance...

To make that much power from a small displacement engine will cause lots of wear in the moving parts-much like the little rice-burners-the more power they make with aftermarket parts the less time they last...

even though it produces massive power, i still think it'll sound odd hearing a v6 coming from an f150. i know, i know, sound isn't everything, but me personally would go for the 5.0 or the 6.2.

It depends on how well they build it. Acura and Mazda have been using turbo 4 cylinders in fairly large SUV's for a year or better.

I can find any information about the internals for the 3.5leb I would think it would look like a diesel block with splayed main bearings, deep skirt and huge oil capacity.

Ford says the oil change intervals is 10,000 miles.?

varithms-agreed however have you ever seen one of those when they are worked hard? They usually fly apart..I'm not saying we all work our trucks hard from time to time and maybe a smaller high-revving engine will work good for the boulevard cruisers but if one starts to work these engines too hard they will fragment I would think..

I mean even a tried, true and tested engine like the 5.4 when worked real hard loses in the end...

I know Ford has some really cool engine platforms in Europe and I have seen and driven a neat little 1.8 turbo diesel but the owner told me that if he is pulling anything, the engine is working at maximum...

It still baffles me when I read about a 4.6 in a BMW making 400 or so hp...

I can't say for the others but Toyota has been supercharging cars for a long time. The Previa came stock with one and there are lots of 3.4L in the Tacoma/T100/4runner that have well over 200k miles that have the trd/urd superchargers.

Most non-us cars make 90-100hp per liter naturally aspirated, but usually lack torque.

The ford Ranger in Ireland is cool, http://www.ford.ie/CommercialVehicles/Ranger/Overview
but I think it may be made by toyota.

I dont know if it's already been said in the thread, as I did not read all three pages worth, but it makes 365hp/420ft lbs and it getsin the 20's for mpg, and it ran a best of 14.7 in the 1/4mile from the factory (Theres a video on Pickuprucks.com), i think it sound's pretty sweet and its weird having a performance v6 under the hood of a truck but i'd drive one. It's kinda like the new v6 mustang...it sounds wrong, but 305hp and is similar in 0-60 and 1/4 times to the 2010 4.6 mustang gt sounds nice, especiallly when you get 31mpg.

I agree, look at all the Subaru's, Toyota's and other import cars. They have been doing this for years. Granted they are in cars for the most part but it is not uncommon for a 1.8 liter Subaru to safely but out 350 HP and 350lbs/ft.
I know this is a diesel but look at a Cummins straight six 5.9, it will put out 700HP and 1200 lbs/ft with just a few mods. My biggest gripe is always with transmissions, they are what go first and leave you stranded.

Heres the stats on all 4 engines (well as ford says):
http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f...ations/engine/

Apparently the 3.5ecoboost is almost matching the 6.2v8 in power
