My 5.4l 1997 f150 has a rod knock with 230k+ miles on it. I've kept the truck in good shape and want to keep it so want to replace/rebuild the motor even though it may cost as much as the truck is worth. I've already upgraded the tranny and rear end.

What are my options? I'm a foreign car guy, not a truck guy so dont know that much about it. what is a good affordable remanufactured motor? Or should I have it rebuilt by a good shop here in town? It seems I can up-year to 2003 without problem.
