Yours sounds more like a cam follower than a cam phaser. It's hard to tell online from a vid. What year model?

jgh64pkup 12-03-2009 10:56 PM

2000
its a 2001 5.4 out of an expedition but i put it in a 2000 f150
where do i get a cam follower
i also hooked up a vacuum line to the intake heater by accident
i dont think it hurt it though
this is a low milage engine out of a wrecked vehicle BTW

You just made this real easy- you don't have cam phasers. They started using them with YM 2004 engines. Cam followers can be purchased at any Ford dealer. I'd suggest staying with OEM parts.

so cam followers for sure it couldnt be a wrist pin from the water it was only running for about five seconds when i did it

anybody?

dplummer87 12-05-2009 11:45 AM

sounds like my damn quad....that sucks. Not sure man, hopefully someone will chime in with some more ideas.

The sound seems to be ½ the speed of the engine so it would be cam related. A loose chain wil slap like that. Either way you should pull the cam cover to inspect the valve train. What do you mean by from the water??

.

jgh64pkup 12-06-2009 10:29 PM

i got the intake heater hooked up to the vacuum lines by accident
so i got water in it

TheJMC 12-07-2009 09:12 AM

So essentially you sucked coolant into the engine. Which vacuum line did you hook up wrong and how did the engine run with this hook up? Did the engine stall while this was hooked up?
