Default '78 cold idle problem

I have a newly rebuilt 400 in a '78 F150 custom. At start-up when the motor is cold I cannot get it to idle on its own. I have to feather the throttle until it starts to warm up (once the needle starts to move) and after that it will idle on its own. Once the motor is up to operating temp it sounds like it runs perfect. No hesitation on acceleration at all. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I also posted this where it should be in the classic corner but i am really hoping for some help. Thanks again

Does your truck have a properly working choke on it? With my dad's old 72 we had to actually install a manual choke that we could open from in the cab when cold starting, after it warmed up a bit u could turn off the choke and all was good Those old fords are cold blooded...don't like to run when cold starting. Man I miss that 72
