Default First post, probably going to get alot of hate but lets talk motors and superchargers

So, I have been toying with this idea for a couple months now ( super charging my truck ) and I think im ready to bite the bullet and get started.

My truck 2000 F 150 regular cab short bed

I don't really want to go the buy a lightning motor and computer route.

What I was thinking was a Turbo and a 4.6 or 5.4 mated to a richmond 6 speed.

What do yall think? I seem to be having trouble locating a turbo kit, everything seems to be roots or centrifugal ( spelling LOL ) super chargers. Cant find anything with a turbo for a 4.6 or 5.4 fords

Would I be better off downgrading the EFI system and motor to early 90's f body type stuff? ala 5.0 with a novi or something similar? aybe take that 5.0 and stroke it to a 347 and then turbo it?

I want to end up with 550 - 650 horsepower and if it all possible get to around 22ish mpg.

OR

I could go way out in left field locate a lsX contact Banks and go that route. I know the LS line of motors have amazing fuel economy when mated with a 6 speed and I think 600 HP would be possible while still maintaining my goal MPG.

The ultimate goal of this project is just to have a clean cruiser truck with plenty of bawlz on the highway, its not going to be a quarter mile queen, although it will see plenty of quarter mile action.

SO, thoughts ?

Has anyone done a chevy to ford conversion on the newer vehicles? I know we used to have a BOWTANG running around town here, but that was 10 if not more years ago.

Lets toss this back and forth and see what we can come up with.

... First post, probably going to get alot of hate but lets talk
motors and superchargers ....

There is absolutely no reason for you to be hesitant to post to
this board because of an adversion to the hate talk that sometimes
shows up on boards of this type.

The vast majority of posters on this board are highly competent
individuals with great interests in their trucks and a willingness to share
there knowledge.

I, for one, do not have the slightest knowledge of a supercharger
other than what I have seen in the movies. So lets let the experts loose and see what we can all learn.

Now there are a individuals out there that will post just to show that they do not really know what they are talking about and have a keen interest in sharing their ignorance with us, but we can look past them.

Thanks,

Ken H.

It all depends on how much money you want to spend. below is a link a nice supercharged Ford Cobra V8. This engine out of the crate puts out 500hp, for just short of 19K dollars from Ford Racing.

One thing you might consider is going to an diesel engine such as the 7.3 liter Powerstroke. This engine in stock form with one of the after market programmers will put out 1000 hp, and 1500 fp. With an LPG injection setup even more. On the Spike Power Block show Trucks they built up a couple of these engines, the first with just the programmer installed had a 1000 hp, while the second one with LPG injection added had something like 1250 hp. The beauty of this setup is you can dial in the Hp you want from inside the cab. Drop it back to stock output for fuel economy, or buck it up to do some heavy duty stomping. These engines where mated to an Allison automatic transmission.

Here is the Cobra Engine.

The LS1 is a powerhouse of an engine. IT takes to mods very well and is the swap of choice right now. I am impressed with the power they can gleen from them. The downside is the same as if you are switching to a L motor. You did not want to swap motors, wiring harnesses and computers...

The 2v 4.6 was only designed to handle 400 hp at the crank without slinging a rod through the block. So if you are looking for more then I reccomed building the bottom end hardcore. I would stay with the 4.6 because there are more mod parts available for them. You can switch to the 4v 4.6 and keep your computer if you get a tune. They can handle alot more HP without going into the bottom end. Especially the newer ones. They are a 6 bolt main motor.
