Does it have an oil pressure gauge, and if so, where is the pressure when the ticking starts?

oil pressure guage stays same at all times during idle. just above half way. no change when ticking starts or stops..ticking sounds like maybe near bottom of engine. also ticking not very loud. i just dont think its normal..

I'm not familiar with any issues of that type on that engine - but then again, I'm still stuck in the 80s (see signature).

If it's still under warranty - I'd suggest to get the issue filed with the dealership now, so that even if they can't find anything (which it is hoped that they will), you will at least have a record on file should something unfortunate happen after the warranty expires.

Sounds like the camshaft phasers.I have seen several give trouble. Also look for sludge buildup.Have you maintained it regulary?I had to put an engine in a 2005 F-150 because the owner did not service it.That was not warranty either. He had no maintenance records= no warranty.

I have a 5.4L 2004 and I just had the cam phasers replaced and the ticking noise went away. You could only really hear the noise when you were standing down by the wheel well. There should be a recall on this in my opnion.

Also possible lifter collapsed but that would be noticable all the time. Id bet on the phasers.
