other than the 05-07 3V GT, the difference between the 4.6L Triton and PI and the car motor is next to nothing, other than the intake manifold designed for the trucks. I have an 02 Explorer motor in my TBird.

Well, I recently picked up a 2002 Police Interceptor 4.6 Engine out of a Crown Victoria to put into my 2000 Ford F150. Im very Excited about this because the PI (Police Interceptor) Heads give a lot more power. The only things you need to swap to put this in is change the Intake, Exhaust, and Oil Pan. This motor has 235HP and 275ft of torque in the Crown Vic, So I should be able to get about 250HP and 300ft of torque when I put the "Bigger" F150 Intake on. I really want to get as much as possible out of this engine so If you have any suggestions please post. Thanks

My other engine had 200,000 miles and was knocking, So we needed an engine and just went with this. At first we just thought this engine was from a Regular 2002 Crown Vic, but got a NICE suprise when we picked it up by seeing it was a Police Interceptor. The PI heads on ebay cost about $300-$400 but we got the 2002 Crown Vic Police Interceptor (PI) motor for $500 with 68,000 miles. Hell of a deal huh?

there is no difference between a regular Crown Vic motor and the police interceptor motor. They are both PI engines, by PI I mean performance improved and not Police Interceptor. They are the same heads the Explorer and mustang got. Its nothing more than a run of the mill 2002 Romeo head casting. Ther is no alternate PI 2V cylinder head. The minor power difference is in the EEC tuning which is marginal at best. A decent tuner can cut you a tune for a 2V 4.6L with the 4R70W, its quite common.

If they are the same Enigne then why does the engine in the Poilice Interceptor have different crank numbers, head numbers and. It has a sticker that reads the Engine Number on the motor that says PI and POL for police . It has one big sticker that reads " 46 POL" for Police Interceptor. So there must be a difference for It to be labled 46 POL or 4.6 Police Interceptor.

post the tag. The engine is the same as all other 2002 model year engines period. the heads are the same as the heads on my motor.

PI means PERFORMANCE IMPROVED. The designation by ford for all 99-00 Windsor 4.6Ls and 2001+ 4.6L Romeos. If you still do not beleive me, flow the heads against "regular" 4.6L PI heads.

I just dont understand that if they are the same motor then why is mine marked "46 POL". I will post pics tomorrow when I can see it. Do you know why they would label it 46 POL if it is the same as the others? And another label says " 4.6L 2VLW-PI 4N". But I will post pics of the labels tomorrow. I just dont understand why It would be marked differently if it is the same Engine.

i think i know why. The P71 cars are assembled with certain build characteristics, the engine not being one of them. They have armor in the doors, a seamless rear bench seat, wiring, trunk storage, etc...the POL designation most likely denotes its assembly line destination.
