2013 Ecoboost or 5.0L V8 ?
#231
I'm looking at 2014 F 150 with the 3.5 Eco boost. Have 07 with the 5.4 now. I tow 7x12 tandem enclosed trailer with the motorcycle. Will the Eco boost give enough power when pulling up the mountains of CO and down the interstate at 75 mph without working the truck to hard?
I tow a 7 x 23 with my sleds through BC in winter without issue.
The ecoboost is probably the best for this.

On more meds than ymeski
My 5.0 towed my V nose 12 ft trailer through the blue ridge mountains with no strain what so ever. The eco will master the rockies with that trailer.

EcoBoost DriveTrain do really sound like a Train due to the clunk.. Did Ford already solve this problem?? Ford mastered making the vehicle that looks Tough..

I tow up to 4 round bales on an all steel Big Tex trailer through the rolling hills of Missouri with no problem. Anything I can tow the Eco should tow better.

Your decision, not ours
I test drove both before I bought my 5.0 a few weeks ago. Side my side, all the same options, even the same color.
Being a child of the 80's when turbos were ALL crap, I had in the back of my mind, down the road repair cost. I have kept my last few vehicles for over 200,000 miles. And haven't had any major repair problems.
I figure all the time, less bells and whistles, less problems. So no turbos, no turbo problems, PERIOD. The 5.0 is a well proven engine with tons of after market parts and help. Most any decent garage wouldn't have a problem at all working on this.
Side note, I don't care for bells and whistles, I went in to buy the bottom of the line 4x4 F150 Crew Cab. Of course they didn't have one of those. So I settled for the F150 4x4 SuperCrew with 302A option package, LOL. I got it for a good price, hoping that the power seats, chrome wheels, power everything, including sliding rear window and back up camera, don't give me problems later on. I feel I got an ok price.

I've owned both in the last year. I originally had a 13 FX2 Ecoboost that turned out to be a POS (not Ecoboost problem). The FX2 had a terrible vibration that Ford could not fix. I traded it for a 14 Platinum 4x4 5.0 after 4700 miles. The Platinum has been trouble free for 2400 miles. Given the choice of engines I'd take the Ecoboost. Nothing really wrong with the 5.0 but the Ecoboost is smoother if you can handle very slight lag and prefer a quieter truck. 5.0 sounds great but the quiet torque of the Ecoboost wins it for me.
