Towing the same stuff as before when my Eco would get 10.5 with my heaviest loads, now I get 13.5-14.
But I would be willing to bet your EB towed that load much better because of it's extra power. And to make power uses fuel. So you were making more power and using more fuel. It's like saying the 6.2 towed the same load but used more fuel. Of course it did, it towed it much by making more power, thereby using more fuel in the process.

They're all good engines. The tune on my 5.0 definitely helped its' power band, especially on the low end. They both pull the loads pretty easily and the low end torque of the Eco helps it do the same work at a lower rpm, for sure. But for me, I've been much happier with the reliability, consistency, and mpg in my 5.0.

I've got a 5.4 anyways so I have no stock in any of the new ones. Low end torque and good sound, best of both worlds

I hear buddy. Not trying to bash any of them. That 5.4 will run for a long time. Just sharing my experience with them

It's all about the biggest rooster tail from the back of the boat. One has 2 timing chains the other 1. Which are U most comfortable with ?

I've also been reading till my eyes bleed. I currently will be pulling a MAX camper of 3500 pounds. If I ugprade at all, it will be to a MAX camper of 5000 pounds. I'm leaning towards the 5.0 as the new tech scares me (from what I'm reading w/ some of you) and I will not come close to towing the max of either. Plus I get a extra 180 pounds of payload standard.

I bought my 2013 SCREW with the Ecoboost back in early September, not sure of the build date, but HAVE been thoroughly impressed with the EB engine. Tow a smaller trailer occasionally and often forget it is back there! I did however, experience my first problem with the EB just last week (Halloween night) while driving from St. Louis to Indianapolis in pretty much a steady downpour for the entire trip. Driving with cruise for most of the trip, got into a heavy downpour and needed to get around a semi just so I could see the nose of the truck, and went to accelerate to quickly get around the truck and experienced the EB shudder. Truck didn't die but it felt like I was driving over rumble strips and clearly missed and lost acceleration power. I backed off the accelerator and eased on it again without gunning it and got around the truck without issue. Later on the trip, happened again while passing on a 2 lane road. Never quit completely but definitely was the issue that has been described on this and other sites repeatedly. CAlled my local ford dealer and he acted like he had never heard of this problem and knew of no service bulletins regarding issue. I did file a report with the NHTSA just hoping to "encourage" ford to come up with a permanent fix! If I had known back in early September what I know now, I would have bought the 5.0 or another truck! Always liked Ford trucks and really like this one, but to spend 40 grand and worry about this happening again is not a good feeling. Ford needs to step up and figure out a solution soon. In the meantime, I am telling everyone I know to be leery of the EB until the bugs are worked out!

dear J-flash
I had the same problem a little while ago. My dealer also acted the same way, i told them to check it out and fix it. He finally put his senior tech on it to find what was causing the miss. the truck had on codes to explain why so he said the only thing left to try was change the plugs so I said do it. And that fixed it back to full power, no miss it is back to being truck I bought. I don't think the plugs they use in the Ecoboost last as long as others, My 2011 Eco only has 72,000miles on it My old Expidition went over 100,000 miles before I had to change spark plugs.
So if they haven't change the plugs try that.

Ive heard its mainly due to condensation build up in the intercooler & when you open the throttle it sucks a little bit of water & therefore causes the miss. Ford needs to do something about it since ive heard more 7 more of these issues come up & it seems it only happens under moist conditions therefore more condensation build up.

What doesn't make sense is that even the aftermarket CAC have the same condensation issue.
