2012 Ecoboost Engine Failure
Hi Guys
I have a 2012 F150 3.5 Ecoboost engine with 72,000 miles. And yes....out of warranty! This morning on the way to work I was slightly accelerating getting on the freeway when I heard a loud clunk followed by blue smoke out the rear view mirror. Before I could turn the key off and coast to the side of the road I heard a lot of loose engine parts moving about the engine. There was a lot of oil under the truck and the inside of the engine compartment on the passenger side of the firewall. I had my truck towed to Ford but they won't be able to look at it until tomorrow. I just went down there to get a better look and pulled the dipstick. The oil level is showing at least 4 inches over the full mark which I know shouldn't be right as there was a huge puddle on the ground. I had this same dealership change my oil 1900 miles ago. I wonder if they even drained the oil before adding more! Could this be the reason for catastrophic failure to the engine and would I have even made it as far as 1900 miles?

I just received the ill fated call from the dealership stating the block is cracked. Of course they're not taking responsibility fro overfilling it with oil. They said there is a very well known problem with bearings going out in these motors whether or not it's overfilled or not.
Are there any master techs on this site who are very familiar with the 3.5 and could explain what damage could occur when overfilling takes place?
