2012 5.0 Engine Knock...NORMAL?????
#131
So, you guys that are getting these new short or long blocks and are running great now..... are these going to have the same problem down the road or did Ford "FIX" the problem with these new installed motors?
Mine is a 2011 and making this noise now, but I have 65,000 mi. on it and extended warranty has expired.... So I take it I'm just s**t out of luck getting this fixed on their dime???

For those of you that have had success with getting the Ford dealer to admit there is an issue, what steps did you take. Mine is doing this, and of course, the dealer is claiming it is "normal", but that my water pump is making "noise".
Which, if they want to replace my water pump fine, but that is not the issue. Is there any TSB's or supporting info I can use?

My guess is that Ford doesn't want to admit there is a problem or else they would be replacing a lot of engines! Probably better for them to just fix the ones that yell the loudest. Squeaky wheel gets the grease!
Keep at it. You WILL win in the end

They will all say it's normal as I don't think Ford has posted anything on it. They seem to repair only if you have a decent Dealership! It took me over a year of constant pestering. I sent the dealership (and Ford) a phone video of mine knocking because every time I took it there it wasn't knocking or very slightly. Ford declined to fix mine at first but lucky for me the service manager at my Dealership pushed them for a complete long block. I was told there were 3 others here in my small town with same issue but not sure if they got it fixed or not. My advice to you is to be a pain in their *** and keep pushing! Take them all these posts on here, I did.

If it HAS to come down to that..... well guess I would have to.
BUT, I don't want to go thru the expense of the short block if they have not fixed / modified the block so it wont happen again down the road!
This is my concern I have right now as well..... did they fix the problem, or just sticking in another poor designed block like the 1st one!
How can I find out?
I doubt it if the dealer would say / tell me..........

Well, I got a little more info (sort of) from a motor rebuild/replace business about the Fords 5.0 engine and the dreaded tapping, knocking noise....
Since my F150 is out of warranty and if I have to stick another short block in it, I DO NOT want to stick in the same new block from Ford with the same problem.... so this place started to look up order #'s for the Fords 5.0 blocks and it shows from 2011-2013 had the same order # for the block, then it changed in 2014! NOW it's showing when ordering a new block from Ford for years (2011-2015) it calls out using the NEW order # and the mechanic at the engine shop says most likely Ford has changed something on this particular block BUT he cant find out what.... but will keep checking.
My fingers will be crossed hoping it was to fix the bore being/going oval!!!
So, since I'm out of warranty I will let this engine place replace my short block and HOPEFULLY wont have anymore problems with this ticking, knocking noise!!!!!!!!

Back from the dealer after having the water pump replaced, still doing it. As usual they will not admit to it being an issue, and totally ignore any info I send them. Which I can understand, its the internet. Even after showing them my video evidence of the blatant ticking/knocking. They have also sent out a Field Service Engineer, but to my luck the noise was not there at the time and when I came to meet with him to show him the videos he was "out on an extended test drive". This is literally the first time it has not done it in a month or so. It was worse when I first changed the oil, perhaps now that the oil has been in 1500 or so miles, it has had some time to thicken up or collect enough sediment to quiet it down? I am going to change my oil again and see if I can get it to come back.
Either way, I plan on trying to get in touch with Ford Customer Service, but I do not expect much from them either. Seems the only way you can get any help is if you find a dealer that cares. I can say one thing, this is the first and ONLY Ford I will ever own.

2011 F150 with 90,000 miles and has the knock. Has anyone had any luck with Ford outside the warranty window since this really should have been a recall issue? Honestly I have had less expensive vehicles that all have sounded great into the 200thousands. 2001 Volvo S60 260,000, 2010 Kia Sedona 170,000 and even a 1990 freakin Geo Storm that went 250,000 without a peep. I spend way more on this low mileage f150 and get the dreaded knock. This whole cylinder distortion thing reaks of a known manufacturers defect. I really love the concept, power and efficiency of the 5.0 for my purposes, but why can't we all get a straight answer from Ford as to whether or not this "problem" can be fixed on a case by case basis? I am sure a lawyer has an answer to that last question! Do I just keep driving this thing and see how long this "normal" sound doesn't affect anything? Frustrating!

I have a 2013 5.0 with 21000 miles on it that has had the knock for the last year or so had took it to a local dealer twice first time they said they all do it it's normal then they said the next time they had it that they couldn't here it they typed the second paperwork up that it was making a popping noise after the truck was turned off funny we sat there for the longest with the truck running to let them hear the noise and then they say that it was when you turned it off was when I was saying I heard it I currently have it at another dealer that is where I bought the truck and closer to Atlanta maybe I will get somewhere with them they have had the truck 5 days and are running tests they say and have said they are not having any luck on hearing the knock the service manager has been awesome and said she heard the knock when I dropped off the truck but haven't had it do it anymore I guess we will wait and see but I told them I was not going away and was unhappy to have a truck that I paid good money for and it sounds like it's coming apart
