I know this thread is older, but people are still having problems, such as me lol

Just like you guys above stated having a 2012 f150 with a 5.0, start making a knocking noise. My truck started making it at around 50,000 and still under warranty (tell 60k) I had a local ford dealer do my next oil/service and I stated I was hearing the noise. They of course "did not" and said so in the report, which I still have. I also have a video of the truck making the same noise right around when my warranty was close to expiring.

Flash forward I now have 75k miles and have had my oil changed every 5k. The truck still makes the noise but never when the service guys are around. I took it to a 3rd dealership and they didn't hear it at first, but finally did. The replaced some belts and the timing chain(as stated before) and racked up a $2500 bill, drove it out of the shop, and still made the noise. The dealership hooked it up shut off cylinders just as stated up and had the same results. For the sake of not racking up a bigger shop bill they didn't tear the motor apart. They have filed open claims with ford.
Now I have started a claim and have gotten little progress. They are claiming that since my truck is out of warranty they will only provide a small amount to help. How can that be if I took it to a dealership, under warrenty, and stated a problem?!

Any of you that have had success please help!

OH YOU MUST BE FURIOUS!!! I went though EXACT same. I spent a year fighting it. I took videos every time I heard it and started emailing it to the owners of my local Ford dealership. Good thing you took videos and hopefully they are date stamped? But still, you now have a record of the complaint BEFORE the warranty ended. That was my big concern, that they would drag their heels until it was up. Get aggressive and angry. Call FORD direct. Make a BIG stink as that seems to be the only way to get results. I threatened them with a lawsuit even. Finally they put in a new long block. Haven't heard a knock since so guess what...its NOT NORMAL like they say! Good luck and keep us all posted.

Unfortunately they also say that the Ford tech line is pretty slow to get back to them and has not been able to help out much yet, so I've been rock'n a Focus for the past week (at least I have a ride ). (I've sent a PM to FordService to hopefully help move things along, but have had no reply yet.)

What do you guys think? Does it sound like the cylinder #4 issue? Like the video shows, it is much louder near the passenger tire. It drives me nuts when I have the windows down!

That sounds more like the injectors. Mine has a new engine and they still sound like that. Just noisy. The knock is a distinct nac nac nac nac sickening sound.

I have a 2013 F150 5.0 with just over 51,000 on it. I also have the tick/knock sound. I can really hear it when going in my parking structure at work, or though a drive though. I am going to take it in tomorrow morning to see what the dealer says. I only hear the tick from the passenger side. Part of me hopes it has something to do with the timing chain or Cat. I sometimes notice a slight high pitch squeal as i am accelerating too from that side, not sure if its a belt or tensioner?

I called Ford and they opened a case for me. They wanted me to take it in last Friday. I left it all day Friday and Saturday. The said they could not hear the ticking. They talked to the ford tech line and they said to take off the passenger side value cover and to check torque on a Cap or cam bolt. Not sure which one it was as I don't have paper work with me at this time. I got it back and same tick. Then Ford emailed me today saying they are closing my case as this is the injector noise and common for the truck. I am not happy. I sent her links to the forums showing others have this and what has been tried, but no response. Not sure what I should do. As a last resort I have tried to email the service manager today to see if there is anything he can do on his side.

I have the same knock . Bought the truck on 3/21/16 at sheehey ford of Richmond Virginia as a certified used truck drove it back home and next morning while driving trough the mc Donald's drive thru heard the horrible knock . I then took it to caviler ford in Chesapeake va . I'm waiting to see what they say . I have the certified warranty for 7years or 100,000 miles. Knock is the absolutely same as the video

Wow, so someone dumped it and now you have it. This is why I was mentioning earlier that dumping the truck or trading it in only gives the headache to another person. I fought for over a year and won. In the end it was my dealership that pushed it through so be nice to your dealer LOL! My theory is this. They CAN'T issue a recall or they would be replacing thousands of engines. I think it is cheaper if they just tackle them one at a time, drag it out until people get tired and give up. You will win. Keep going back. This generates a paper trail so if it does blow up you have that because I am guessing they would attribute it to something else. Even infrequent oil changes, oil filter etc. They started giving me the gears about my Roush cold air intake even though I bought it from them and had them install it! Post a video if you can. I started sending my "knock Knock" video to the owners of my dealership

Good luck and keep us posted!
