Default 2012 5.0 Engine Knock...NORMAL?????

I've got an engine knock/Tick that comes and goes...and when it comes..it's VERY loud. I've attached some videos for comment. I've had this in with Ford, and two of the three times its not made any noise, so I'm told nothing is wrong and that all is normal... What say you??

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXBXQ618s_Q

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIdk_kYgzEo

Needless to say I'm extremely frustrated...I know there are a few TSB's out there, one relating to the primary timing chain tensioner being loose. However, Ford tells me that my build date is outside of the TSB. I do have to again, ask the question...if the "truck" build date is 2/2012, is it possible that the "engine" build date may fit in the TSB date?? So, the engine may be older than that of the actual build date??

Anyway, any insite you guys have to offer will be helpful.

That's not normal bro. How many miles are on your truck? You have a 2012, that HAS to be a warranty issue. You might need to find another dealer.

The truck has about 5,500 miles on it now. I first made my complaint known to Ford at about 1,200 miles. So, yes, under warranty. The problem is, is that Ford is at the point of all but refusing service. Ford just tells the tech's that it's normal and to return the truck to customer and not to see the truck again....it's crazy. I've started a claim etc...so we'll see how that goes, but to date, it's been going on for at least two months with NO resolve.

@Fx4 5.0Man...I noticed you're from Winchester, VA...I'm in Middleburg/Purcellville VA..so you're real close. You don't have a dealership your way that you recommend do you? I've bought my truck at Ted Britt in Chantilly.. It's been at both TB and Jerrys in Leesburg.

I wish I did. I actually bought my truck in Minnesota at Apple Valley Ford when I was visiting my girlfriends family. We ended up driving it back.

I don't have much experience with the Ford dealership in Winchester.

You could always give them a shot or even Shenandoah Ford near Front Royal, VA off Rt 522.

They are hoping you'll just go away, I hate dealerships. I only deal with the service manager at TB Chantilly.

http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/ci...s/lemonlaw.asp

"How do I know if my vehicle's a lemon?
If you have tried unsuccessfully to have your new vehicle (purchased in Virginia) repaired three or more times for the same problem, or the vehicle has been out of service for more than thirty days in one year, your vehicle may be classified as a lemon under the Virginia Motor Vehicle Warranty Enforcement Act.
If you think your vehicle is a lemon, contact the Office of Consumer Affairs before filing a claim under this Act. All claims must be filed within 18 months following the date you first received the vehicle."

http://www.carlemon.com/lemon/MN_LemonGuide.html

"Refund and Replacement Eligibility Requirements
Just because a repair shop has made a number of unsuccessful attempts to fix your car you are not automatically eligible for a refund or replacement vehicle. You must first:

Write to the manufacturer, zone representative or authorized dealer notifying them of the problem. Specifically state that your car is a lemon and that you want a buy-back under the lemon law. This does two things:

It gives the company an opportunity to fix the defect (the manufacturer gets one more chance to fix the defect after notification); and,

It lets the company know you plan to use Minnesota's lemon law if the defect is not properly repaired.
Try to resolve the problem through the manufacturer's automobile dispute arbitration program.

The manufacturer may require you to first go through the arbitration program before filing a lawsuit under the lemon law. Check with the manufacturer or the Minnesota Attorney General's Consumer Division if you have questions about a manufacturer's arbitration program."

Yeah, that's who I've been dealing with since February; Rob Teasdale. I've also got their Master Mechanic Novis (cool name right!) working this as well, but the dealership is ignoring me, and the Ford rep has stopped taking my calls. I keep forwarding new videos etc. Nothing...I'm affraid I'll have to go down the road of lemon law..

I think you'll find that once you initiate that particular dialogue, they will be much more inclined to help.

Today, the truck is running normal...of course It's been sitting all day and I just let it idol to get hot, no driving. But, it's quiet..no ticking. I'd be inclined to say it was the driving that starts it, but there are days that you can drive all day and it doesn't make a noise...

Scratch my last post (from last night)...after leaving it running a while it was ticking..just not very loud.

Today on the other hand, its probably as loud as I've ever heard it. Its hot and humid today in Northern VA..I'm just wondering if there's a connection??

So, just a quick update. After weeks of hearing nothing, I finally sent Ford a Notice of intent. Some response, but I also took it to another dealer (3rd one) as it was knocking and asked them if they thought this was normal. I didn't give any history just played dumb concerned truck owner. The tech said no, you need to get this in..I asked what he thought it might be and he said that it sounded like the lifters. What do you guys think???
