If that ends up being the case, I'm going to push for a full refund on the truck since it's been in several times for this issue and transmission issues.
My updates are the same as previously posted a week or two ago, they're still waiting for the long block to arrive, estimated delivery of July 27th. If it shows up on time, it will mark about 4 months since i dropped my truck off. I regret pushing for the repair at this point, it seems while annoying, the knock has no detrimental affect on the reliability. Hell, the 2018 I am in has the same hollow knock my 2012 has, not nearly as loud, but its there. Doesn't have the tick, though. I am nervous to see the shape of my truck when I get it back, I am worried it was turned into a spare parts truck for the technicians while it has been sitting there. I am going to go over it with a fine tooth comb when I get it back.

Yeah, 4 months is way too long. That's incredible. Did they give you any reason as to why it was backordered? I thought I had read somewhere that their were issues with the heads and that's what was causing the long delay. As for the knock hurting reliability...I think it's too hard to say. From what I've found, performance begins to deteriorate, they start using more and more oil...for someone that's looking to drive it until 300,000 miles...that might mean they're replacing the engine at 150K due to low compression or something else. It's good you're getting it fixed. As for the 2018's...I've seen a few threads where they talk about the high pressure fuel pump / water pump being the cause of that hollow knock. That being said, if they never updated their blocks, it could be the same issue as your 2012. Quite honestly, I've heard a couple of 5.0's with many miles that don't have a knock and ones that knock...it's not normal. I think Ford is just trying to get away with saying it's normal so they don't end up having to replace a bunch of long blocks for people...or make any substantial changes to their blocks which may involve a complete redesign or a change to their oil pumps which may impact fuel economy. After listening to a couple of FordTechMackuloco's videos about Ford decreasing spec oil pressures to improve fuel economy, it seems like that may be causing some of these issues...that and the fact that 5.0 oil returns are too small to get all the oil back to the sump efficiently after it's been jetted to the top side.

So my service adviser claimed it was due to a head issue they were dealing with, he was not sure if the cylinder bore distortion added to the delay as well. He also mentioned that the fire at the Ford plant was given to him as a reason as well. Although, I could have sworn the magnesium plant fire was in the plant where they make body parts, not engine parts, but I could be mistaken. He claimed their diagnosis was the oil pump was weak/failing and caused low oil pressure and lead to the wear, so perhaps the oil pumps can be an issue. Either way, at this point, I have another month before they expect the engine, which is frustrating.

Hey gopherman have you seen this thread? https://www.f150forum.com/f118/2016-...398836/index3/

sounds like maybe your issue and my issue might be a little different, I thought the oblong cylinder thing was fixed after '14...

Crazy about your trans though, and they won't fix it???

Thanks for posting about this. A lot of those look like the number 5 cylinder "normal" TSB/SSM (my knock is coming from cylinder 3 or 4). Mine doesn't fall within the build date specified but I'm wondering if the sounds are the same. Mine is getting a lot worse...to the point that I don't even want to drive it anymore. I start it up and get somewhat sick to my stomach and when I drive it, it sounds and feels like a truck with 10X the mileage. That knock that I posted in a previous video has gotten much louder.

As for the transmission, they've tried to do TSB 16-0015 twice. First time was two months after I bought it, then they denied it was still doing the same thing, the next time they said it was normal, then when I brought it in again, they re-applied TSB 16-0015 because they said the first one might not have worked (it's a calibration update). I've brought it in again two more times since then and while it ends up on the invoice, they say it's normal or a characteristic of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the damn thing has started vibrating through the pedals now too and it leans to the passenger side (this was noticed on closer inspection of my suspension after the rear hop has become so bad the rear swings out). The truck is $63,000 worth of junk and I hate saying it because it truly was my dream truck, but it's hard to say anything else at this point, especially when Ford refuses to fix it. I'll never feel good about it now for as long as I own it. I'm really hoping Ford does the right thing in the end.

So I called just to check in with my adviser yesterday and got some surprising news, he said my truck should be done today late afternoon! Hopefully I can either get it back today or Thursday. He said the engine miraculously showed up last Friday mid afternoon and his technician was setting the engine in the frame yesterday at about lunch time. I am so happy this debacle is coming to an end, and hope that no further issues come up. I will be very happy to get my truck back, and although the 2018 F-150 was nice and new, I prefer my truck much more. It sounds snobby, but I missed the little things on my FX4 over the 2018 XLT like automatic climate control and memory seating, plus the tinted windows in this Georgia Summer weather.

Awesome news! Glad this is finally finishing up for you.

Mine is at the shop today being reviewed by an FSE. Hopefully I'll know what's going on soon. I'll update once I find out.

I am in Forsyth County, GA and Billy Howell Ford did the work. I am going to have to take it back when my advisor gets back from his vacation because there is a noise when I start it up after it’s warm, it is either coming from the engine or the transmission bell housing, if it’s the standard 5.0 knock, I am letting it be, I’m not going through the hassle again. The truck drives perfectly fine, no longer knocks or ticks just has a brief noise when starting, so I can deal. I already plan to get rid of the truck shortly as well, I don’t know whether I will buy another Ford truck again, though. I can say that if I do, Billy Howell will get my business, for sure, they were great to work with.

When the advisor who told me my advisor was on vacation andwered, he knew my truck and confirmed they had another truck like mine in for the same thing waiting on it’s engine, so while many Ford dealerships claim they’ve never heard of it, it seems quite common, hence the backorder.

Well, another update, took my truck back to the dealer for the noise and they have to tear into it again. They think its coming from under one of the valve covers, perhaps a rocker/can/tappet noise, but will need to tear into it to find out. While I am glad I am being taken care of, I am slowly losing faith in Ford and their products. Not to mention, if they have to tear into the top end of a brand new engine, I am not sure how much faith I will have in the longevity of my truck.

As mentioned, I wish I would have just left the noise alone, and unless your knock is severe, leave it be as well. Hopefully it is a simple fix and I won't be waiting for another engine.
