Hey I'm new on here and this thread has strayed from the OP in several directions. I currently own a 2006 Silverado. The reason I am here is due to unfortunate reliability of the Chevy I need something else. I have my heart set on a new F150. The creature comforts available ALONE have the competition beat IMO. But getting back to the OP I am not sure whether to get the 5.0L or the EB. If anyone would like to comment without taking it personally (as I have noticed several discusions getting rather heated) I would appreciate it.
I bought a brand new F-150 in 1997. It had the 4.6l and was rated at 220 hp @ 4,750 rpm and 265 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm. If I was lucky I got 18 on the highway. You can now buy a N/A V6 F-150 with 302 hp @ 6500 rpm and 278 ft-lbs. @ 4000 rpm and get 23mpg. Even the base V6 can out perform the older V8's. There isn't a bad motor in the batch

Well, about once/twice a month I go out west for quading. With four quads and gear it weighs in about 6000lbs with the trailer. The Chevy pulls it but struggles. Even with just my quad on my single quad trailer it doesn't like the hills. I am planning on getting a TT in a couple years. Not sure how the 5.0L performs when towing 7500ish lbs if its max is 9600. I think I'm worried about being disappointed with another engine as I have been with my current 5.3L. Thanks for the knowledge and advice!

How will you use your truck? Moderate towing and either motor will work fine. If you are towing say 8-9k, you tow a lot or you live in the clouds then perhaps you should look at the Eco. What people seem to overlook is the 5.0l was put into this truck as the basic work truck motor. It was designed to do everything good and that it does, Sometimes you need to do something great with your truck like tow 10,000lbs across Colorado. That is what the Eco is for. As far as comparing the two or calling one the "better" motor, well that is the debate of idiots. Neither motor is "better" than the other. They both work as designed and do their respective jobs very well. If one were having an extremely high failure rate or didn't live up to their designed purpose then perhaps an argument could be made for which is better but as it stands now both are great, it is up to you to decide which one will suit your needs.

Even the 01 F150's with the 2V 5.4's put out 350ft-lbs @ 2500 rpm (much more usabe).
The eco is on another level from all of these. The Eco makes 22% more max torque than your 5.3. Also note: The eco makes all that torque >35% earlier in the powerband.

Note: your 5.3 L puts out 325 ft-lbs & 4000rpm which should say something.
