You will have to decide, the two have pretty equal power numbers, a slight bit more for the Eco Boost but you have to wonder how that engine will stand up over time. I'd like to time warp 10 years and see how the Eco Boost engine lasts...

I've been shopping EB vs 5.0 and I was wondering if the extra $895 was worth the cost but you folks have answered all my questions in one threat. Right down to how reliable the EB is. Great threat. Thanks to all that participated in it. Now I can go buy a new EB.

We had about 100 of them as rentals and they all had the 5.0, we had no problems whatsoever with them and they never missed a beat even when worked hard in the field and in rough terrain. I was really surprised how quiet and powerful they were..

I have heard there are a few small issues with them but remember, like the EB, the first prodution year always has a few little quirks.

Personally if I were to choose, I'd probably go to the 5.0 only due to the fact I have lttle faith in the longevity of any turbo system...I know, I know, diesels have been and are running turbo set ups with little to no issues...I know many a Cummins owner that has had to replace something on their turbo system at one time or another and it wasn't a cheap touch...

We blow turbos all the time in our military diesels and not always from abuse.

Very correct one more thing you would have to fix

Go test drive them both. The EB will impress you immediately as it's a fantastic engine. Give the 5.0 20 miles or so before passing judgement, it's beauty isn't as transparent. as a rule it seems EB owners love their trucks, and 5.0 owners love theirs. We all have different things that make us tick, driving them will help you find which one does it for you.

I got to do some MPG testing on the interstate this week. I have the 5.0 in a SCrew 4x4 with the 3.55 gears. Now, I need to tell you that I am running 93 octane Ethanol Free, and it makes a noticible difference compared to 87 E10.....like about 2-2.5 mpg overall. The terrain and wind direction will also make a difference on the mileage. This week, the wind was fairly calm and the terrain was gentle sloping hills. At 75 MPH, I got 20.0 MPG and at 70MPH, I got 21.2 MPG. I used the cruise control also. On back roads under the same conditions at 55MPH, I got 22.6MPG. When I hit the I, the truck was already warmed up, so you have to take that into consideration. These are real world numbers. My truck has only 2800 miles on it. Since day 1, in all my driving, I am averaging 18.3 MPG. and that includes some boat towing. I am quite pleased.

For folks who are not getting the kind of mileage you had hoped for, you really need to try some Premium Ethanol free gas, but wait until the low fuel light comes on before filling up. You will see the difference in your economy meter in just a few miles. I did the math and the difference in mileage pretty well covers the difference in price.

I just picked up my 12 Screw 5.0 Fx2 last Saturday. It has the 3.55 rear. I only live 1.2 miles from work with 4 red lights between so my mpg sucks lol. When I get on the interstate or open highway it jumps to about 21-22 which surprised me. This thing has plenty of power for me. I sell them and have had plenty of seat time in the 5.0 and EB. Seat of pants feel is actually about the same to me... But the sound of a roaring V8 trumps a V6 in my book lol. I never tow... Never race... And the mpg wasn't an issue due to my short commute. When I get my exhaust done, I'll be even more satisfied with my 5.0.
