2000 Timing Chain Adjuster

I got the new timing chains, guides, and tension assembly in. The new chains had the markings for proper timing locations. I guess my cam did slip some while removing the tensioners. After installation, the timing marks looked correct at 11 & 1 o'clock. I turned the motor several times to make sure everything sounded good. I did notice that the timing marks on the chain did not repeat everytime the motor was turned. Does this sound right? I verified the crank location with the cam location and everything looked correct. I got the motor back in, & should finish up by Friday.

I got the engine cranked today. The knocking noise is gone, but I have a definite skip. My code light came on, I will have to borrow a meter to pull the codes. Is there a wrong way to install the coil packs? Is it possible the spring did not get correctly on the plug, and causing a possible short to ground. I also noticed a whistling sound around 3000 RPM's. I wish I never would have pulled the motor to change all of the gaskets & oil pump. That is the toughest engine I have ever pulled. I hope my code is something simple!

I hate to say it but the skip is probably the timing being off a tooth on one of the gears. Setting the timing is one of the most critical and hardest thing to do on a Modular/Triton engine.
If by chance it is one of the coils the thing that can cause problems is not loading up the boots with dielectric grease.

Things sounded alot better today after sitting overnight. I took the the truck to Autozone today and had it scanned for codes. The code that it got said BBDPFE sensor ckt high. Maybe I left a hose or plug loose hopefully. The engine sounds good out of the drivers side exhaust, but has a slight miss on the passenger side. I drove the truck for around 12 miles and it did ok. I think that the passenger side sounded a little funny before, but I forgot about while having the motor out.
I am hoping since I don't have any other codes the timing is ok. Let me know what you think. I also blew my radio fuse somehow, I don't have an owners manual to locate it. If anyone knows please let me know. I'm going to let the engine cool & start looking for my problem.

I found the DPFE plug disconnected. I guess I forgot to hook it back up. The radio also decided to start working again. So after I clear the code, I will hook the battery back up & see what happens.

I have hooked the battery back up & drove the truck for around 50 more miles. The engine has not thrown anymore codes, & sounds normal. Next time I decide to pull the engine, somebody shoot me!

Sounds like you did something right..lol
Let me know when your ready to come to GA and help me on my timing chains on my 5.4L..lol...After reading this I'm not looking forward to doing this to my truck..maybe I can have your luck though.

I probably made the job harder than needed to be. While waiting on all of the timing chain components, I got a case of the dreaded " While I'm at its". I decided to pull the motor and change all of the gaskets & oil pump. That was a mistake that I would not do again. It's a lot of work to get the motor out & in.
Pulling the front cover is around 5 hours for the 1st time. Now that I have gone through the procedure, I know what to remove to get the valve covers off. If you do the timing chain, replace all of the components as a kit. Aligning the chains with the timing gears is a lot easier, with fresh marks on the timing chains. I found out after installing the chains, that the marks don't repeat for quite some time. And yes the cam sprockets will slip, & you want know it without new chains. Providing you change all of the timing components, it a pretty straight forward procedure.
Torkum & Good Old Bill help keep me heading in the right direction.
