Default Thank God I bought an extended warranty with my used 08 truck.

Bought an 08 F150 Super Crew 5.4l Lariat 2 weeks ago. Argued with the wife about wanting an extended warranty. She didn't want to pay the extra $30 a month. I won the argument. Now the truck is at the dealership getting a new engine installed under warranty.

Drove the truck to Naples yesterday for work (200 miles one way) and she was acting weird the whole day. Felt like the engine was misfiring, and it was shuttering under acceleration. I was thinking it may have been a plug or coil issue. Pulled into the drive as the wife was walking out to her car, and she heard an odd rattling noise. To me it sounded like it was coming from the cats. So I took it to a muffler shop, and once it was in the air, the mechanic told me the noise was coming from the engine or transmission, not the exhaust. So I took it to the dealership for service.

They pulled the transmission pan and looked for any issues there, and didn't find anything. Then they pulled the oil pan, and said they found a piece of metal in the oil pan, and the crank shaft had some play side to side. Said they weren't going to go any farther into the engine, and they are replacing the engine Monday. Went back this afternoon to grab a couple things out of the glove box, and they had already started taking the old engine out.

They are going to check the transmission for damage as well, once the engine is out. And they want to check the drive shaft.

I got the 4 yr / 48000 mile warranty with the truck. It is covering all of the repairs. And the dealership is paying my deductible since I have had the truck less than a month. The odd thing, is this truck was babied by the previous owner. He really kept up on the maintenance. He took the truck to the dealership for all of it's service so I got extensive service records when I bought the truck.

She's glad I didn't listen to her for once. She didn't think we needed it due to the extensive service history we had on the vehicle. I said it was cheap insurance that could pay for itself with 1 big issue. Didn't take long for that big issue to surface.

Regardless if the car is new or not, I always get an extended warranty. You never know when something goes wrong.

Just saw the invoice for the engine replacement at the dealer today when I picked up my courtesy car. $6500 for the engine including labor. It's another $650 for the new flywheel, and driveshaft.

I paid $7500 last fall to put a new engine in my 09. The only engines available at that time were from Ford, all the aftermarket suppliers were out and had a 3 week delivery time. $6500 was what I was quoted for the aftermarket one. At least yours is free. Should last a long time, but they seem to fail, no matter how good of care you take care of it. Mine was babied since new.

The guy who had my truck before me babied it as well. Changed the oil every 3000 miles. (full synthetic) The dealership was very surprised that my truck had issues. The General Manager was going to buy my truck, but I found it before it made it out of the prep shop and bought it on his day off.

Latest invoice is $7500 for the engine. Engine came in Tuesday, but they are waiting on some other parts. Said I should have it back sometime next week. Here are the latest pics I took of her Tuesday. They pulled the cab to give them easier access to the engine bay, without having to worry about damaging the cab while swapping engines.

They are taking care of me. I have to give them props for that. It's one of the larger dealerships in the area, so they can afford to take care of me, and it will help them in the long run to be able to say they took care of me. I will definitely recommend them to friends after how well the are treating me.

They are covering everything. They are paying the warranty deductible. They have had me in a rental truck for about 2 weeks now. There were a couple of things the warranty company didn't want to pay, so the dealership is covering the cost. This isn't costing me a die out of pocket.
