would like to find if the main frame rail is good enough for jacking my beast. cross member looks too close for access to starter.

Either will work. You will want to pull tire too.

Well I finally won the argument with my wayward starter. Took the better part of 4 days weather permitting .Ended up using the main frame rail and pulling the tire mostly for room , as it turned out, couldn't access the top bolt due to exhaust manifold being in the way. The beast is back to being an able consumer of fossil fuels. Thanks for the help.
