OR! Find a 2 valve 4.6 that you like and change the differential gears to a 4.10:1 ratio. That will give you the same towing pull as a 5.4 2v with 3.55's. The 5.4 is just a stroker 4.6, you'll have to wind it up a bit more, but the gears will give you the same piston velocity per road speed... piston velocity = swept volume = horsepower.

My 2010 has been flawless since I bought it at 135,000 kms from an elderly gentleman. I guess he maintained it and since I have owned it, I change the oil with fully synthetic and Motorcraft filter before the oil life monitor says I am at 30% left; often at 40% left since oil and filters are cheap. Now at 196,500 kms and running a 5 star tune, it is still quiet, smooth, powerful and not that bad on fuel all things considered. Unless gas gets really expensive or my commute becomes long, I plan on keeping this truck till well over 300k and I think it should have no issue. Worst case I have to do the timing components down the road as well as the rollers, and oil pump to give a measure of safety.

Plugs are not an issue with the redesign and mine came out no issue when I did them the one time.

Talking to several mechanics that install a lot of reman engines in fleet trucks, the common thing they notice is the redesigned oil pump and oil channels on all the remans. I think that is the issue. My engine blew due to a bad oil pump.

I have owned 2 Triton engines one was 4.6 ( 2 v 248hp) new 2007.scab w/4x4 loved it. overall gas mileage on mid-grade gas was 17. ran with a 1800lb load all the time. engine problems were almost none. changed plugs at 90,000 miles changed one failed coil at 120,000. always used synthetic oil. changed every 7000 miles.traded at 127000 with no engine problems. recently bought 05 screw 4x4 with 5.4 engine at 141,000 noisy and ran like a dog. no power or gas mileage. added engine revitalant by Xado for up to 10 liters of oil and engine improved fairly quickly .was running better after 60 miles. and vvt was working properly after 600 miles. now has 144,000 + miles an getting good gas mileage and is defiantly is now more powerful than the 4.6. It's your choice. serviced well .both are good choices. 04thru 08 are day after day easy drivers. you won,t be disappointed

To update this thread. I had my engine replaced under warranty at 87500 miles. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, my truck broke down while out of state for the holiday. 1 week trip ended up being 3 weeks since I had to wait for parts. At 220,000 miles (132,500 on the engine), had to do a full timing job. Mechanic said my right VVT was stuck in the fully advanced position. And was getting a cylinder 3 misfire. Full timing replacement, high flow Melling oil pump, new coils, plugs, injectors, etc. Decided to do a cam phaser lockout at the same time. Mechanic asked if I wanted it installed, as it would be WAY cheaper to install while he already had all the parts on the bench. I already had a tuner, so kit install and custom tune was only $100.

I didn't see a hit in MPG's, but that could be from the one side being fully advanced could have been hurting that. Not to mention I have a 6" lift with 35's. Power down low is noticeably better.

I plan to keep this truck just long enough to save some cash for a down payment on something else.

What does the Xado additive do? Does it flush engine oil? Did you have to change oil after putting it in?

You have to use a special oil filter and synthetic oil. My 2010 needs a timing job at 168,000 miles. Frankly, u should avoid this truck. It also has a rust problem. If u want a truck that will last twenty years this is not it. If not for covid, most of these trucks would be scrap metal.
