Its mostly labor, the gasket is probably $30-$40 but several hundred for labor, not sure on the total price, once the heads are off they will need to check them and make sure they didn't warp. If they did they may be able to machine them down, if not, well its bad.
Even if its not in the crankcase its still probably blown, its blowing it out the side. But if it is in the case and you run it you could end up with bigger problems.

At this point, if it were me, I don't have a place to work on my vehicles, I'd tow it in to a garage/dealer to have it checked. This whole thing is going to suck man.

Not good I'm having my uncle come over to pull of the valve cover and replace the gasket, that's were the coolant is coming from. Do you think we could do the head gasket. Or would that be to much for 2 DYIers? At this point I'm thinking about selling or trading it, me or my family cant aford $ 2000 to replace the head gasket. I love the truck but if it is an expense fix its gonna sit for a long long time. What would you price the truck at, details are in my sig

You can absolutely change head gasket yourself, but you're gonna want to make sure you have the tools and maybe watch a YouTube video to get familiar with the process. But if coolant was coming out of the valve cover, there's an issue. There should only be oil under the cover, no coolant.
Keep in mind that if the head is warped you'll keep blowing gaskets until that's taken care of. It would be worth taking the head to a shop to get checked, if it ends up being to bad you can get a replacement from a salvage yard, I don't know how much a new or refurbished one would be.
Hopefully someone else with more experience can comment on this too.

Do you think it would be cheaper to find a crate/junkyard 5.4 2v and repleace the one that's in there with it? I would be willing to speend a LITTLE more if doing that will make the truck last longer. Exsepcially if the new engine in in better shape and has less miles

Turns out the leak isn't coming from where I discribed, but the gasket is still slightly sticking ouut there. I'm almost certain my lower intake manifold gasket blew on me so I will be pulling off the intake tommorow. Any idea of what could have caused this? Thanks
